Then Hanumān took the liṅga, shining like a pearl.
Hearing the words of Hanumān, Vibhīṣaṇa then spoke.
It is heard that, long ago, this liṅga belonged to the Lord of Wealth.
When Rāvaṇa was bound, then indeed the Lord of Wealth—
By the grace of that liṅga, the Lord of Wealth became the protector of wealth.
And on the seventh day, he reached the city of Avantikā.
There, on the bank of Rudrasaras, he placed it and then bathed.
Desiring to lift that liṅga, he was not able to do so.
Then the deity, having become manifest, spoke to the son of the wind.
'Hanumatkeśvara will become renowned in the world.'
Whoever sees Hanumatkeśvara Śiva, even once—
He will have no fear of thieves, nor poverty, nor misfortune.

One should offer incense of black aloe and present sesame and rice grains.
Wherever a person dies, Yama becomes as if equal to the ancestors.
By name, it is called Rudra's Lake, renowned throughout the three worlds.
Having bathed there and become pure, one should behold Koṭīśvara Śiva.
Having performed a śrāddha there, listen to what fruit one attains.
The fruit is a crore-fold, Vyāsa; there is no doubt about this.
All that becomes multiplied a crore times; there is no doubt about this.
One is freed from all sins, just as a serpent sheds its skin.
Having seen the god Mahākāla, one obtains the fruit of giving a thousand cows.
A person attains the fruit of a thousand Cāndrāyaṇa vows.
Having performed worship with fragrance and flowers, preceded by a great bathing rite,
One attains the fulfillment of all desires, which even the gods find difficult to obtain.
With seasonal fragrances and flowers, and with beautiful garments,
Having made equal portions, one should grind them on a stone slab.

Thus, in the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the fifth Avantya section, in the glory of the Avanti region, this is the twenty-second chapter named 'The Greatness of Rudra's Lake.'
Śivā, bestower of welfare, holy, and giver of the world of merit—
