By Viṣṇu, in the form of Rāma, he was struck down in Laṅkā.
Having slain that wicked one, he took Sītā, the daughter of Janaka.
There, having attained the kingdom, surrounded by sages—
He then asked about the prowess of the two, Śaṃbhu and the Wind-born.
Just as the god Maheśvara is incomparable in valor in battle—
Hearing this, Hanumān said, 'Among monkeys, I am the equal.'
I will go to the city of Lanka to request a liṅga.
Then, having gone to Lanka, he spoke to Vibhīṣaṇa.
And the king of the Rākṣasas said, 'Take this as you wish.'
Before the conquest of the three worlds, my noble brother gave this; I now give it to you today, O monkey—this is the truth.
Then Hanumān took the liṅga, shining like a pearl.
Hearing the words of Hanumān, Vibhīṣaṇa then spoke.
It is heard that, long ago, this liṅga belonged to the Lord of Wealth.
When Rāvaṇa was bound, then indeed the Lord of Wealth—
By the grace of that liṅga, the Lord of Wealth became the protector of wealth.
And on the seventh day, he reached the city of Avantikā.
There, on the bank of Rudrasaras, he placed it and then bathed.
Desiring to lift that liṅga, he was not able to do so.
Then the deity, having become manifest, spoke to the son of the wind.
'Hanumatkeśvara will become renowned in the world.'
Whoever sees Hanumatkeśvara Śiva, even once—
He will have no fear of thieves, nor poverty, nor misfortune.
His diseases are destroyed, and he will not suffer from planetary afflictions.
Having anointed it with saffron, one should then worship with blue lotuses.
One should offer incense of black aloe and present sesame and rice grains.
Wherever a person dies, Yama becomes as if equal to the ancestors.
By name, it is called Rudra's Lake, renowned throughout the three worlds.
Having bathed there and become pure, one should behold Koṭīśvara Śiva.
Having performed a śrāddha there, listen to what fruit one attains.
The fruit is a crore-fold, Vyāsa; there is no doubt about this.
