कारणं तच्च रुद्रस्य काम्य त्वमिदमुच्यते
That cause, too, is said to belong to Rudra; this is called the desired state.
अचैतन्यं प्रधाने च तच्च तत्त्वमिदं स्मृतम्
That principle in the primordial matter is considered insentient.
प्रयोजने च वैजात्यं ज्ञात्वा तत्त्वमसंख्यया
Knowing the essential difference in purpose, the principle is reckoned without enumeration.
इति तस्य तत्त्वभावं तत्त्वसंख्या च तत्त्वतः
Thus, its essential nature and the enumeration of principles are truly explained.
सांख्ये कृता भक्तिरेषा सद्भिराध्यात्मिकी मता
This devotion established in Sāṃkhya is regarded by the wise as spiritual.
प्राणायामपरो नित्यं ध्यायते नियतेंद्रियः
Another, devoted to breath-control, always meditates with restrained senses.
हृत्कञ्जकर्णिकासीनं पञ्चवक्त्रं त्रिलोचनम्
He contemplates the one seated in the heart's lotus-center, with five faces and three eyes.
श्वेतं दशभुजं भद्रं वरदाभयहस्तकम्
White, auspicious, ten-armed, with hands granting boons and fearlessness.
य एव भक्तिमान्रुद्रे रुद्रभक्तः स उच्यते 5.1.7.
He who is truly devoted to Rudra is called a devotee of Rudra.
स्वयं रुद्रेण विहितो ब्रह्मादीनां समागमे
This was established by Rudra himself at the gathering of Brahmā and the others.
निर्ममा निरहंकारा निःसंगा निष्परिग्रहाः
They are free from possessiveness, ego, attachment, and acquisitiveness.
भूतानां कर्मभिर्नित्यं त्रिविधैरभयप्रदाः
Always granting fearlessness to beings through threefold actions.
यजंतो विवि धैर्यज्ञैर्ये विप्राः क्षेत्रवासिनः
Those Brāhmaṇas who dwell in sacred places, performing various sacrifices,
व्रजंत्येव सुदुष्प्राप्यं ब्रह्मसायुज्यमक्षयम्
Surely attain the exceedingly difficult and imperishable union with Brahman.
पुनरावर्तनं हित्वा विधिं माहेश्वरं स्थिताः
Having abandoned rebirth, they remain established in the ordinance of Maheśvara.
गार्हस्थ्यं विधिमासाद्य षट्कर्मनिरताः सदा
Embracing the rule of household life, they are always devoted to the six duties.
अधिकं फलमायांति सर्वदुःखविवर्जिताः
They attain greater reward, free from all suffering.
दिव्येनैश्वर्ययोगेन स्वारूढः स्वपरिग्रहः
By divine union with sovereignty, he is mounted upon his own possessions.
वृतः स्त्रीणां सहस्रैश्च स्वच्छंदगमनालयः 5.1.7.
Surrounded by thousands of women, he dwells where he pleases, coming and going at will.
स्पृहणीयतमः पुंसां सर्ववर्णोत्तमो धनी
He is most desirable among men, supreme among all castes, and wealthy.
धर्मज्ञो रुद्रभक्तश्च सर्वविद्यार्थपारगः
He is knowledgeable in dharma, devoted to Rudra, and accomplished in all branches of learning.
वेदाध्ययनसंयुक्तो च भैक्षवृत्तिर्जितेंद्रियः
Engaged in Vedic study, living by alms, and with senses conquered.
मृतः काले समृद्धेन सर्वभोगावलंबिना
When he dies at the proper time, having enjoyed all pleasures in abundance,
गुह्यकोनाम रुद्रस्य गणः परमसंमतः
He becomes a member of Rudra’s retinue called Guhyaka, held in highest esteem.
तेषां च समतां याति तुल्यैश्वर्यसम न्वितः ।। देवदानवमर्त्येषु स च पूज्यतमो भवेत
He attains equality with them, endowed with similar sovereignty; among gods, demons, and mortals, he becomes most revered.
वर्षकोटिसहस्राणि वर्षकोटिशतानि च
For thousands of millions of years, and hundreds of millions more,
वसित्वासौ विभूत्या वै यदा च च्यवते नरः
Having ruled with splendor, when that man departs,
महाकालवने क्षेत्रे ब्रह्मचर्याश्रमे स्थितः
Dwelling in the hermitage of celibacy in the sacred field of Mahākāla forest,
मृतोऽसौ याति दिव्ये वै विमाने सूर्यवर्चसि 5.1.7.
When he dies, he ascends in a divine chariot shining with the radiance of the sun.
रुद्रलोकं समासाद्य गुह्यकैः सह मोदते
Reaching Rudra’s realm, he delights together with the Guhyakas.
