एवं व्रतधराः सर्वे वने तस्मिन्महेश्वरम्
Thus, all those observing vows in that forest worshipped the great Lord.
भक्त्या परमया युक्ता विधिना परमेण च
Endowed with supreme devotion and performing the highest rite,
रुद्रध्यानाग्निनिर्दग्धकल्मषाश्च श्रियान्विताः
Their sins burned away by the fire of meditation on Rudra, they were endowed with prosperity.
समचीकरन्प्रत्युक्ता ब्रह्मापीशानभावितः
Even Brahma, addressed in return, acted with devotion to the Lord.
गते वर्षसहस्रे स दिव्ये देवेश्वरेश्वरः
When a thousand divine years had passed, the Lord of the gods of gods,
गणैर्नानाविधैः सार्धं नानाभूषणभूषितैः 5.1.6.
Together with various hosts, adorned with diverse ornaments,
कामरूपैरकामैश्च सर्वकामसमन्वितैः
With forms shaped by desire and by absence of desire, endowed with every fulfillment of wishes,
अणिमादि गुणैर्दिव्यैर्योगैश्वर्यादिनामभिः
With the divine powers beginning with aṇimā and the rest, and with the yogic lordships so named,
व्याघ्रव्यालाननै रौद्रैः काककंकवटैस्तथा
With fierce faces of tigers and wild beasts, and likewise with crows, herons, and bats,
अरूपैः समरूपैश्च सुरूपैर्बहुरूपकैः
With formless, formed, beautiful, and many-shaped figures,
एकद्वित्रिशिखैश्चैव नानारूपविराजितैः
With one, two, or three crests, adorned with various forms,
एककर्णैर्द्विकर्णैश्च बहुकर्णैर्विकर्णकैः
With one ear, two ears, many ears, and deformed ears,
एकजंघैर्द्विजंघैश्च बहुजंघैरजंघकैः
With one leg, two legs, many legs, and legless forms,
गौरश्यामैः श्यामगौरैरसितैः कर्बुरैस्तथा
With fair and dark, dark and fair, black, and mottled bodies,
शूलासिपट्टिश धरैर्भुशुंडीपीरघायुधैः
Bearing spears, swords, pattiśas, clubs, and iron weapons,
गदामुद्गरपाषाणमुशलायुधहस्तकैः 5.1.6.
With hands holding maces, mallets, stones, pestles, and other weapons,
भंभाभेरीर्वादयद्भिर्वीणापणववेणुकान्
Sounding drums and bhambhā and bherī, and playing vīṇā, paṇava, and flute,
हुडंकाशृंगिकाद्यानि नानावाद्यानि वादकैः
Playing various instruments such as huḍaṅka and śṛṅgika and others,
गणेश्वरैः सुदुर्द्धर्षैर्वृतः सूर्यो ग्रहैरिव तं पश्य तां तदा व्यास ब्रह्मादीनां दिवौकसाम्
Surrounded by the lords of the gaṇas, most difficult to approach, like the Sun by the planets—see him, Vyāsa, at that time, among Brahmā and the other gods of heaven.
अथ ब्रह्मादयो देवा दृष्ट्वाग्रे गणनायकम्
Then Brahmā and the other gods, seeing the leader of the gaṇas before them,
ततो ऽवलंब्य ते धैर्यं दृष्ट्वा देवं यथाविधि
Thereupon, having gathered their courage, they beheld the god as prescribed,
शिरोगतैरंजलिभिः पादेभ्यश्च महीं गतैः
With hands joined upon their heads and with their foreheads touching the ground,
वृषासनाय सौम्याय शूलशक्तिधराय ते
To you, seated on the bull, gentle, bearing trident and spear,
नमो दिक्चर्मवस्त्राय शुचये तीव्रतेजसे
Homage to you, clothed in the hide of the directions, pure one, of intense radiance.
नमोंधकविनाशाय परेशाय नमोनमः
Salutations again and again to the destroyer of Andhaka, to the Supreme Lord.
गिरिशाय सुरेशाय ईशानाय नमोनमः 5.1.6.
Salutations again and again to the Lord of the Mountain, the Lord of the gods, the Supreme Ruler.
सुरासुराधिपतये यतीनां पतये नमः
Salutations to the Lord of the gods and asuras, to the Lord of ascetics.
विरूपाक्षशुभाख्याय विश्वरूपाय वै नमः
Salutations to the one known as Virūpākṣa and Śubha, to the one who is truly of universal form.
वेधसे विश्वरूपाय दैत्यसंहारिणे नमः
Salutations to the Creator, to the one of universal form, to the destroyer of the daityas.
विरूपाय सुरूपाय रूपाणां शतधारिणे
To the formless, to the beautiful, to the one who bears a hundred forms.
