Because you, of great strength and gentle gaze, have come here swiftly—
With a cool nature and cool rays, you shall become the moon.
Standing upon the tree, you will surpass all radiances with your own brilliance.
Saying, 'Come here, come here,' he placed it upon his head.
Thus, the fire with form, the fire of the letter 'u', was established.
The fire, having taken that form, spoke this supreme word to Brahmā.
Brahmā said to him: 'Which place do you desire, O Fire?'
There is no suitable place for you; therefore, it shall be thus.
In the world, you shall always act as the cause of the world's order.
If here you, adorned with great blazing flames, are not this original dharma, then it is due to the delusion of desire caused by illusion.
Thus addressed by Brahmā, that fire blazed forth in thousands.
The letters 'a', 'i', and 'u'—then Brahmā saw them.
All things, above, below, and across, were pervaded by the fire of existence.
Brahmā, especially fearful, was pondering deeply.
Desiring to know the Lord of all, the treasury of radiance, Prajāpati approached.
Homage to the repository of brilliance, who hears the wondrous things.
He who is the seed of all beings, the enchanter and the dispeller of delusion.
Salutations to you, whose face is upward, who are the essence of being and of the earth.
O lotus-eyed, cloud-god, and fire-god, whose eyes are like blossoming lotus petals.
Homage, again and again, to you whose form is sacrifice, who are the performer of sacrificial offering.
Remover of darkness, great bearer, beloved of your own, dispeller of darkness.
O blazing Vaiśvānara fire, upward-flaming, all-pervading, illustrious one, of great fortune, with dark path—homage, homage!
I am pleased with you, O Brahman; your creative act will succeed.
Thus addressed, Brahmā then bowed and spoke again.
Then he said to Brahmā: 'You are the Person, the Lord of creatures.'
Then he beheld, with divine sight, the eternal Lord.
The god always creates and enjoys fire, sky, earth, the visible and invisible, the supreme state, for he is the master of all.
Then Prajāpati, with a hymn of great and auspicious origin—
Thereupon, seeing the god with a very red hue, Prajāpati—
He himself bowed with his head to the Lord, the originator of the manifest and unmanifest.
