That fierce man, born from Brahma's sweat, is the one.
Learn about him quickly, he said; then Hara vanished.
Striking with his left foot, the man rose up in anger.
With the sound of his drawn bow, he filled all beings with noise.
Thus, an equal and divine battle took place upon the earth.
O sage, as they fought, time passed for the sweat-born and blood-born.
With the force of his arrows, Brahma pierced that supreme man.
Raised by my dust, your Brahma was cast down.
If, in another birth, my man is defeated by Hari,
Having fought a battle between the two, he restrained them and spoke.
Then, when that great battle arose, there I will engage him.
These two men, Rudras by nature, must be protected according to your ability; being portions of yourself, at the end of Dvāpara, you must appoint them upon the earth.
Then the lord of the gods spoke these sorrowful words to Viṣṇu.
In this Manvantara, O god, when the Tretā Yuga arrives, Vāli of great arms was slain for the sake of Sugrīva.
Afflicted by that grief, I do not accept your man.
Viṣṇu said: O Maghavan, for the alleviation of the earth's burden—
Then Indra became delighted by those words of Viṣṇu.
Having thus spoken, he sent forth the two, the Sun and the Moon, once again.
A reprehensible deed was done, O Brahman, in the desire to kill the lord.
For the sake of purification from this sin, perform the highest expiation.
Let one be the Gārhapatya fire, and the second the Āhavanīya.
In a circle, satisfy yourself, but do not move in the form of a bow.
Having offered into the fire and performed austerity, worship Hara at that very moment.
With a mind purified by expiation, approach the great lord.
Having thus spoken, Hari of fierce energy, the great soul, went to his own abode.
Why has this now occurred at the birth of Viśvakarman?
How was he begotten by Rudra, the lord, with deliberate intent?
By whom and for what reason was he produced among Śaṅkara, Acyuta, and Brahmā?
How did that wondrous fifth face appear for him as well?
By whom was that deluded man sent to slay Hara?
