While the nectar was being drunk, O god, by the gods who had previously been defeated—
Rāhu drank the nectar, and thus he became free from death.
Then, by the gods, a reconciliation was made, and he was established in the midst of the grahas.
Out of fear of him, O best of the gods, piercing the peak of the mountain, this was done; therefore, here, grant me your favor, O destroyer of desire.
Rahu, who is given to anger, will surely seize you.
When the eclipse approaches you, the rites of bathing, giving, and the like should be performed.
By those acts, not even the slightest distress will come upon you.
When the eclipse occurs for you, by my word, without doubt, the place known as Candrodbheda will become a renowned holy site in the world.
When the eclipse approaches you, whoever bathes here,
Or whoever, on the day of Soma, bathes or beholds this place,
Having spoken thus, the blessed Hara then vanished from sight.
Thus ends the fifty-first chapter, entitled 'The Description of the Glory of Candrodbheda Tirtha', in the third section called Arbudakhanda of the seventh Prabhasa Khanda, in the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahapurana.
Where Gauri performed her austerity, most virtuous and famed among people,
By merely seeing that place, a person is freed from sin.
For what reason is this so great and wondrous? You ought to tell.
By merely hearing of it, one is freed from all sins.
Long ago, knowing that Gauri was engaged, the gods together with Indra,
If the seed of the three-eyed one falls in the field of Gauri,
Then, for the destruction of the offspring, we shall go.
Thus deliberating, the gods went to Mount Kailasa.
Then all the hosts of gods, having deceived that group,
Having gone, say to Bhava through Vayu: 'You must not produce offspring.'
Then the wind swiftly went and stood where the great lord was.
Thereupon, the blessed Śarva was overcome with profound shame.
Then Gaurī, afflicted with intense sorrow, cursed the dwellers of the heavenly realms.
Therefore, they too shall be deprived of offspring.
Because the wind arrived at this place, which is devoid of people,
Having spoken thus, she, absorbed in her husband's wrath, then sighed deeply.
For the sake of a son, she undertook austerities, controlling her speech, body, and mind.
Together with Indra and the other gods, she approached that place.
