युक्तं कृतं महेशानि यद्धतः पापकृत्तमः 7.3.36.
O great goddess, it was rightfully done that the most wicked was slain.
त्वया दत्तं पुना राज्यं वासवस्य त्रिविष्टपे सर्वे देवाः प्रसन्नास्ते प्रदास्यंति न संशयः
By you, the kingdom in heaven is restored to Vāsava; all the gods are pleased and will grant boons, without doubt.
आश्रमोऽत्रैव मे पुण्यो जायतां ख्यातिसंयुतः
May my holy hermitage arise here, renowned everywhere.
अस्मिंश्चाहं सदा देवाः स्थास्यामि वरपर्वते
And here, O gods, I shall always remain on this supreme mountain.
रूपेणानेन देवेशि ये त्वां द्रक्ष्यंति मानवाः
O goddess of the gods, those humans who see you in this form,
ब्रह्मज्ञानसमायुक्तास्ते भविष्यंति मानवाः
Those humans will become endowed with knowledge of Brahman.
यस्माच्चंडं कृतं कर्म त्वया दानवसूदनात्
Because you performed this fierce deed, slaying the Dānavas,
तव नाम्ना तथा ख्यात आश्रमोऽयं भविष्यति
Therefore, this hermitage will be known by your name.
येऽत्र कृष्ण चतुर्द्दश्यामाश्विने मासि शोभने
Those who, here, on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight in the auspicious month of Āśvina,
गयाश्राद्धफलं कृत्यं तेषां देवि भविष्यति
O goddess, for them, the fruit of the Gayā-śrāddha rite will be obtained.
उपवासपरास्तेषां पापं यास्यति संक्षयम् ॥ 7.3.36.
For those devoted to fasting, their sins will be completely destroyed.
पुत्रहीनश्च यो मर्त्यो नारी वापि समाहिता अपुत्रो लभते शीघ्रं सुपुत्रं नात्र संशयः
Any man without a son, or any woman who is devoted, will quickly obtain a good son—of this there is no doubt.
सर्वशत्रुक्षयस्तस्य राज्यावाप्तिर्भविष्यति
He will achieve the destruction of all enemies and the attainment of sovereignty.
अग्निरुवाच अत्रागत्य शुचिः श्राद्धं यः करिष्यति मानवः
Agni spoke: Whoever comes here and performs the śrāddha rite in purity, O human,
अल्पमृत्युभयं तस्य न कदाचिद्भविष्यति
He will never experience even the slightest fear of premature death.
प्रेतोत्थं न भयं तस्य देवि क्वापि भविष्यति
O goddess, he will never have any fear arising from departed spirits anywhere.
विमलस्तु सदा भावि इह लोके परत्र च
He will always remain pure, both in this world and in the next.
योत्र दास्यति विप्रेभ्यो नीरोगः स भविष्यति
Wherever he gives to the Brāhmaṇas, he will remain free from disease.
न भविष्यति लोके स वित्तहीनः कथंचन
He will never be destitute in this world, under any circumstance.
इह लोके परे चैव तस्य भावि सदा सुखम्
In this world and the next, happiness will always be his.
वसव ऊचुः त्रिरात्रं यो नरः सम्यगुपवासं करिष्यति 7.3.36.
The Vasus spoke: Whoever, for three nights, properly undertakes fasting,
छत्रोपानत्प्रदातारस्तेषां लोकाः सनातनाः
Those who give umbrellas and footwear will attain eternal worlds.
भविष्यति विशेषेण ह्याश्रमे लोकविश्रुते
He will especially become renowned in the hermitage, celebrated among people.
सप्तजन्मांतराण्येव रूपवान्स भविष्यति
For seven successive births, he will be endowed with beauty.
चांद्रायणसहस्रस्य फलं तस्य भविष्यति
He will obtain the fruit of a thousand Cāndrāyaṇa observances.
तदाज्ञया दिवं जग्मुर्देवी तत्रैव संस्थिता
By that command, the goddess ascended to heaven and remained there.
अथ मर्त्त्या दिवं जग्मुर्दृष्ट्वा देवीं तदाश्रमे
Then mortals ascended to heaven, having seen the goddess in that hermitage.
अग्निष्टोमादिकाः सर्वाः क्रिया नष्टा धरातले
All rites such as Agniṣṭoma were lost from the earth.
ततो भीतः सहस्राक्षः संमंत्र्य गुरुणा सह 7.3.36.
Then, frightened, Sahasrākṣa consulted with his teacher.
व्यामोहं गृहपुत्रोत्थं तृष्णामायासमन्वितम्
He was afflicted by confusion, thirst, and fatigue arising from home and offspring.
