Drive the chariot along the same path where she surely stands.
Many have gone along that path by which she departed, O king.
A great meteor fell, striking the orb of the sun.
Seated thus, terrified, they discharged much urine.
He disregarded all those terrible and dire omens.
Releasing arrows and roaring, he shouted, 'Stop, stop!'
Whoever restrains the wrathful buffalo in battle—
Then, approaching the goddess, he spoke to her with pride, O king.
Neither my strength, nor my fortune, nor my wealth is childish.
Surely, I know the truth: you are arrogant, O beautiful one.
I do not have the heart to kill you, a woman, though I am resolved in manliness.
In the three worlds, there is no man equal to me, O childish one.
Grasping his bow with arrows, he spoke these words.
Though filled with desire for the maiden, still, hear my words.
The grandsire, the gods, consider the lowest of demons worthy.
Having released a single beloved woman, you, O sinner, were created by the lotus-born.
Here you have received the boon of the Grandsire, and you are victorious in battle, O Dānava.
But now, with these sharp arrows, I will send you to the abode of Yama.
With four arrows, she brought down his four steeds to the realm of Yama.
With one arrow she cut down his banner, and with another she wounded his heart.
Struck with faintness, the king hung his head down for a moment.
The goddess, accompanied by her companions, struck in all directions.
Then the demon, his bow broken, took up shield and sword.
As he swiftly rushed forward, she cut his sword in two with a pair of arrows.
Weaponless and chariotless, O King, that lowest of Dānavas stood there.
Meditating on the Brahmāstra in his mind, he released a blade of grass at her.
At that very moment, O heaven-dwellers, he invoked the Brahmāstra.
Then the goddess, pausing for a moment, meditated on that weapon, O best of kings.
When the Brahmāstra proved ineffective, the foremost Dānava invoked the Agneyāstra.
Thus, many kinds of weapons were released by him at that time.
