Afterwards, Gaurī gave him a food vessel filled with sweet modaka.
Drawn by the fragrance of that food, a mouse emerged from its hole.
When it was seen, listen with focused mind to the merit that arises.
Whatever sin is committed in childhood, old age, or youth—
In the month of Māgha, on the bright half, on the fourth day, having fasted, before a great altar filled with pure water—
There, after bathing with devotion, whoever beholds Vināyaka—
Reciting the mantra 'of the Gaṇas', and circumambulating three times—
Therefore, with all effort, one should behold Vināyaka.
Even a householder, with devotion, who remembers him when a task arises—
Whoever, rising in the morning, remembers the god Vināyaka—
At weddings, quarrels, battles, departures, or in agricultural work, whatever he desires, all is accomplished by his grace.
Whoever, with concentration, performs the great Vināyaka pacification—
What are the mantras, what is the procedure? I am truly most curious.
One should perform Gaṇeśa's pacification during the best lunar strength.
In a place equally situated to the east and north, having constructed an altar and a pavilion—
And the guardians of the worlds, beginning with Indra, in all directions, O king—
With offerings of fragrant flowers and gifts as prescribed, and with the proper arrangements for the oblation,
In the eastern direction of that place, with gold and bearing fruits,
Having invoked Vināyaka, in front, at the fire-pit made by hand,
With offerings of honey, dūrvā grass, and unbroken rice, after the oblation to the planets,
This must be performed, O best of kings, and it must be done by Brāhmaṇas facing north,
Wearing yellow garments and adorned with golden rings,
Seated upon a deer skin, with these mantras, according to the proper procedure,
O Gaṅgā, Yamunā, O five rivers, O auspicious lakes, hear this of mine,
Having pronounced it correctly, one then attains the destruction of obstacles.
Afflictions, diseases, fierce ailments, fevers and the like,
All this has been explained to you, as you have asked me.
And whoever recites this properly on the fourth day, with focused mind,
Whatever desire he contemplates, if he worships this with concentration,
Seeing whom, a man is completely freed from all sins,
