Salutations to you, Lord of gods, giver of fearlessness to devotees.
You are the sacrifice, you are the vaṣaṭ call, you are the moon, you are the sun.
Just as oil remains always hidden within sesame seeds,
Just as fire, though present within wood, is not visible,
Just as ghee exists concealed within curds,
Just as a person obtains water by digging into the earth,
So long is heaven difficult to attain, and so long are enemies valiant.
So long is fortune unstable among men, and so long are various diseases present.
So long is the sorrow of childbirth, and likewise the sorrow of beloved ones; until you, O Lord, bring contentment to embodied beings here.
Having thus praised, he then bathed the liṅga according to the prescribed manner.
With pārijāta flowers and those born of lineage,
He performed a vast worship, endowed with supreme faith.
And he himself began to sing, keeping the rhythm with his hand.
It was accompanied by proper tempo, adorned with melodies and musical modes.
Meanwhile, as Vibhishana once more set out towards Lanka—
Especially, what had previously been spoken by him in front of that one—
Hearing that, Vibhishana bowed deeply and addressed the messenger in a loud voice.
If indeed the kingdom has been established for Rama's son by the Rakshasas,
Then I have received the highest favor from that great-souled one.
Having spoken thus, he questioned all the Rakshasas.
Then, bringing them there in the presence of that messenger,
Those Rakshasas of wicked nature who had caused the destruction of the people—
Let all those fierce and cruel ones become extremely miserable.
Deprived of all enjoyments, enduring both cold and heat,
Thus, having pronounced this curse upon them, the best of Rakshasas—
From this day onward, let no Rakshasa go forth; forgive my offense, which was committed out of ignorance.
By Rakshasas of wicked birth, greedy for great quantities of flesh—
Whatever other acts remain, whether ordained by fate or by man,
Go quickly yourself, O Rakshasa, and uproot them.
This alone is the supreme duty, bringing happiness to all the worlds.
