Whoever, rising early in the morning, always beholds this, O man,
And on the eighth or fourteenth day, whoever recites the story of Rama,
Thus ends the one hundred and second chapter, called 'The Description of the Construction and Consecration of the Five Shrines by Rama in the Hatakeshvara Field,' in the sixth book, Nagarakhanda, in the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahapurana.
The sages said: The liṅgas that were established by the Rākṣasas or by the monkeys—
Therefore, tell in detail, wherever and however they were established.
Having reached Bālamaṇḍanaka, and bathing there with concentration,
There he established the Mukhaliṅga of the wielder of the trident; likewise, all the other monkeys established Mukhaliṅgas of the wielder of the trident.
Whoever anoints those Mukhaliṅgas with clarified butter, when the sun is in Capricorn, attains the world of Shiva.
Then, in the western direction of that field, by the Rākṣasas—
By Rama, in the eastern direction, the five shrines were constructed.
Likewise, in the southern direction, a small well was made by him, near the Ānartīya lake, a destroyer of sins.
Whoever performs the śrāddha there, when the southern solstice arrives,
Whoever offers a lamp there in the month of Kārtika, O twice-born, is never born blind, wherever he may be born.
Now, recount in full the greatness, O son of Sūta.
O best of the twice-born, the glory of the Ānartīya lake—
On the fourteenth day of the bright half of Āśvina, with a concentrated mind,
Then, on the day of the festival of lights, having performed śrāddha with concentration,
One should worship Dharmarāja with fragrant substances, flowers, and ointments.
By offering sesame and black gram, and by performing the ritual of satisfying the twice-born.
Whoever does thus, O Brahmins, at the sacred place called Anarta.
On the day when Rama arrived there, he was filled with joy.
Here, the eminent sage Agastya stands with the descendant of Raghu.
Then, having heard their words, Rama, lotus-eyed, the best of the Raghu lineage, bowed to him with eightfold prostration.
Not far from there, he stood, endowed with humility.
Then, questioned by the sage, he narrated in detail.
How Sita was abandoned, and what was done by Saumitri.
Likewise, how he approached Sugriva, and similarly Vibhishana.
Then Agastya recounted wondrous tales before him.
After the conclusion of the stories, the mind of the best of Raghu's line became unsettled.
That which is not found among the gods, the yakshas, or the siddhas and vidyadharas.
