Do now what is fitting, and perform the funeral rites as are proper at this time.
Those of poor understanding grieve for what is lost, dead, or past.
Thus, after the ministers spoke to him, they then took up his body.
With camphor, aloe, and other very fragrant substances,
And with sandalwood and aloe wood, they built a broad funeral pyre.
At that moment, O best of twice-born, a wonder occurred there.
As they placed his body upon the pyre,
At that very moment, a voice emerged from the expanse of the sky.
O Rāma, mighty-armed one, do not be overcome by grief.
Especially for one who has renounced, endowed with knowledge of Brahman,
This kinsman of yours, O Rama, has gone to the abode of Brahma, departing from himself through the gate of Brahman, possessed of great renown.
Then your ministers, having heard those words that came from the sky, said: 'Lakshmana, let him quickly go from there to his own house, O lord.'
Let the affairs of the kingdom be considered, as well as the rites to be performed after death.
I will not go home now without Lakshmana.
This son, named Kusha, whom I approve, has been given by me.
Having spoken thus, Rama then, desiring to depart, went to the divine abode.
At that time, I granted him the everlasting kingdom of Lanka.
For the race of the Rakshasas is remembered as exceedingly cruel.
If that great-souled Vibhishana should act with the nature of a Rakshasa,
then the gods will destroy him by means and with conciliation first.
Otherwise, my words would become false; therefore, go to him.
In the same way, my supreme friend, the second, is the monkey who remains.
The son of the wind, along with the son of Vali, together with his attendants.
Therefore, after speaking respectfully with all of them and consulting them,
Having thus reflected for a long time, and having summoned the Pushpaka,
Then, seeing the shining Pushpaka rising up,
They, having bowed from afar, touched the earth with their knees.
Then, joined with him, they crossed over from that foremost aerial car to the splendid house of Sugriva in the great city of Kishkindha.
There, seeing Rāma settled and resting, the monkeys gazed upon him.
He is exceedingly thin and deeply troubled—Is all well in your house?
