तथाप्येवं करिष्यामि तव दास्यामि कृत्स्नशः
Yet even so, I will act thus and give you everything in full.
गृह्यन्ते येन ते सर्वे व्याधयोऽपि सुदारुणाः
By which all diseases, even the most severe, are taken away.
यदि दृष्टिपथात्तुभ्यं क्वचिद्यास्यंति दूरतः
If, from your sight, they depart somewhere far away,
यदा त्वं पृथिवीपाल स्वर्गं यास्यसि भूतलात्
When you, O ruler of the earth, depart from the world and ascend to heaven,
सर्वे मंत्रास्तथाऽस्त्राणि ममवाक्यादसंशयम्
All mantras and weapons, without doubt, will be from my command.
बाढमित्येव तेनोक्ते तत्क्षणाद्द्विजसत्तमाः
When he replied, 'So be it,' at that moment, O best of twice-born,
ज्ञानसंपत्प्रयुक्तानि यादृशानि महात्मना
Those endowed with wisdom, as given by the great soul,
व्याधयो यैश्च गृह्यंते मुच्यंते स्वेच्छया सदा ६.९५.
And by which diseases are seized and always released at will.
ततस्तं सकलं प्राप्य प्रसादं चंडिकोद्भवम्
Then, having obtained all that favor which arose from Caṇḍikā,
एकां मुक्त्वा निजां भार्यामेकं दशरथं सुतम्
Leaving only his own wife and one son of Daśaratha,
अजारूपान्स्वयं पश्चाद्यष्टिमादाय रक्षति
He himself, taking a staff, later protects those in the form of sheep.
गुप्तोऽपि नापराधः स्यात्कस्यचित्प्रकटः कुतः
Even though he is concealed, no offense occurs to anyone; how could it be manifest?
तद्रूपो निग्रहस्तस्य तत्क्षणादेव जायते
Such is his form; his restraint arises at that very moment.
अदृष्टान्यपि शस्त्राणि तानि कुर्वंति तत्क्षणात् कुर्वन्ति मनुजास्तेषां चक्रे वैवस्वतो ग्रहम्
Even unseen weapons, those he wields instantly; men, for them, Vaivasvata sets the snare.
न तत्र भयसंत्रस्तस्ततः पापसमाचरेत्
There, no one, terrified by fear, would commit sin.
ततस्ते पापनिर्मुक्ता लोकाः संशुद्धगात्रकाः
Then, those worlds, freed from sin, with bodies purified,
एवं स्थितेषु लोकेषु गतपापामयेषु च
Thus, when the worlds are in such a state, and free from the disease of sin,
न कश्चिन्नरकं याति न च मृत्युपथं नरः ६.९५.
No one goes to hell, nor does a man tread the path of death.
व्यवहारे ततो नष्टे यमलोकसमुद्भवे
Then, when justice perished, and the world of Yama arose,
ततो वैवस्वतो गत्वा ब्रह्मणः सदनं प्रति
Then Vaivasvata went towards the abode of Brahmā.
अजापालेन भूपेन तत्सर्वं विफलीकृतम्
By the king, the protector of sheep, all that was rendered fruitless.
नाधयो व्याधयस्तत्र न पापानि महीतले
There are no sorrows, no diseases, nor sins on the earth.
तस्मात्कुरु सुरश्रेष्ठ पुनरेव यथा पुरा
Therefore, O best of gods, do again as before.
तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः
Hearing those words, Brahmā, the grandsire of the worlds,
अथाब्रवीत्प्रहस्योच्चैस्त्रिनेत्रश्चतुराननम्
Then, laughing loudly, the three-eyed one spoke to the four-faced one.
कथं निवारणं तत्र क्रियते कश्च निग्रहः
How is restraint effected there, and what is the means of control?
तस्मात्तेन महीपेन यस्मान्मार्गः प्रदर्शितः ६.९५.
Therefore, by that king, the path was shown.
तन्मयापि यथा चास्य प्रसादः सुरसत्तम
And by me as well, O best of gods, his favor was granted.
एवमुक्त्वा चतुर्वक्त्रं यमं प्राह ततः शिवः येन तत्समये प्राप्ते तं नयामि निजालयम्
Having spoken thus, Shiva addressed the four-faced one and Yama: 'When that time arrives, I will bring him to my own abode.'
यम उवाच पञ्चवर्षसहस्राणि तस्यातीतानि चायुषः
Yama said: 'Five thousand years of his life have passed.'
