तस्या वेगेन तत्तोयं पिबन्त्यास्तत्रभूतले
By her force, as she drank that water upon the earth,
ततोऽन्याः शतशो गावः पपुस्तोयं मुनिर्मलम्
Then, hundreds of other cows drank the pure water, O sage.
यथायथा गता गावस्तत्र तोयं पिबंति ताः
As each cow arrived there, they drank the water.
ततश्च गोकुले कृत्स्ने जाते तृष्णाविवर्जिते ६.९३.
Then, in the entire cowshed, thirst was completely removed.
अंगं प्रक्षाल्य पीत्वापो यावन्निष्क्रामति द्रुतम्
After washing his limbs and drinking the water, before he quickly departed,
ततो विस्मयमापन्नो गत्वा स्वीयं निकेतनम्
Then, filled with wonder, he went to his own dwelling.
तृणस्तम्बं यथा धेन्वा तत्रोत्पाट्य प्रशक्तितः
There, a cow forcefully uprooted a clump of grass.
भवंति च विनिर्मुक्ता रोगैः पापैश्च तत्क्षणात्
They become instantly freed from diseases and sins.
ततःप्रभृति तत्ख्यातं तीर्थं गोमुखसंज्ञितम्
From then on, that sacred place became known as Gomukha.
अथ भीतः सहस्राक्षस्तद्दृष्ट्वा स्वर्गदायकम्
Then, Indra, the thousand-eyed, became afraid upon seeing that which grants heaven.
तस्मात्स्थानाद्विनिष्क्रांतं सूतपुत्र वदस्व नः
O son of Sūta, tell us of the one who departed from that place.
पुत्र शोकाभिभूतेन तोषितो गरुडध्वजः
Garuda-bannered (Viṣṇu) was pleased by one overcome with grief for his son.
तस्य पुत्रः सुविख्यातः सुवर्चा इति विश्रुतः ६.९३.
His son became renowned, well-known as Suvarcā.
पूर्वकर्मविपाकेन स बालोऽपि च तत्सुतः
By the result of previous actions, even though a child, that son—
अथ तत्कामिकं क्षेत्रं स गत्वा पृथिवीपतिः
Then, the lord of the earth went to that desired field.
ततस्तुष्टिं गतस्तस्य स्वयमेव जनार्दनः
Then Janārdana himself became pleased with him.
परितुष्टोऽस्मि ते वत्स तस्माच्चित्तेऽभिवांछितम्
I am satisfied with you, child; therefore, whatever you desire in your heart—
बालोऽपि तत्कुरुष्वास्य कुष्ठव्याधिपरिक्षयम्
Even as a boy, do this: remove his leprosy.
ब्रह्मण्यश्च कृतज्ञश्च सर्वशास्त्रार्थपारगः
He was devoted to Brahman, grateful, and accomplished in the meaning of all scriptures.
कस्यचित्त्वथ कालस्य ब्राह्मणोऽनेन घातितः
Then, at some point in time, a Brahmin was killed by him.
अथ पश्यति यावत्स प्रभातेऽभ्युदिते रवौ
Then, as soon as the sun rose at dawn, he saw it.
अथ तं ब्राह्मणं मत्वा घृणाविष्टः सुदुःखितः
Thinking of that Brahmin, he was seized by compassion and became deeply distressed.
राज्ये पुत्रं समाधाय वैराग्यं परमं गतः ६.९३.
Placing his son upon the throne, he attained supreme detachment.
ततः कालेन संप्राप्तो यमस्य सदनं प्रति
After some time, he arrived at the abode of Yama.
ब्रह्मघातोद्भवेनैव बालभावेऽपि संस्थिते तैर्नूनं ब्राह्मणाघातो विहितश्चान्यजन्मनि
Because of the sin of killing a Brahmin, even though he was in a child’s state, surely the killing of a Brahmin was ordained for him in another birth.
हाटकेश्वरजे क्षेत्रे यो गत्वा श्राद्धमाचरेत्
Whoever goes to the field at Haṭakeśvara and performs a śrāddha there,
न ब्राह्मणवधाद्बाह्यं कुष्ठव्याधिः प्रजायते
No leprosy arises from the killing of a Brahmin outside of that.
प्रसन्ने त्वयि देवेश नासाध्यं विद्यते भुवि
O Lord of the gods, when you are pleased, nothing is impossible on earth.
एवमुक्तस्ततस्तेन भगवान्मधुसूदनः
Thus addressed, then, by him, the blessed Madhusūdana,
सा ध्याता सहसा तेन विष्णुना प्रभविष्णुना
She was meditated upon at once by Viṣṇu, the mighty Viṣṇu.
