कस्मात्त्वमस्य नीचस्य पशुपालस्य सर्वदा
Why do you always attend to this lowly cowherd?
तस्यापि प्रेतकार्याणि मृतस्यापि करोषि किम्
Why do you perform the funeral rites even for him, though he is dead?
तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा किंचिल्लज्जासमन्वितः
Hearing their words, he was somewhat accompanied by shame.
अहमस्यान्यदेहत्वे पुत्र आसं सुसंमतः
I was, with full approval, the son in her other body.
कस्यचित्त्वथ कालस्य मार्कंडस्य महामुनेः
Then, at some point in time, of the great sage Markandeya,
कार्तिक्यां कृत्तिकायोगे भीष्मपञ्चककृन्नरः ६.९२.
During Kartika, at the conjunction with the Krittikas, a man performed the Bhishma Panchaka.
दृष्ट्वा पितामहं देवं पूजयित्वा जनार्दनम्
Having seen the divine grandsire, and having worshipped Janardana,
तन्मया विहितं सम्यक्स्नात्वा तत्र शुभावहे
That was properly performed by me, having bathed there in the auspicious place.
चन्द्रोदयस्य विप्रर्षेरन्वये भुवि विश्रुते संस्मरन्पूर्विकां जाति तेन स्नेहो मम स्थितः
Recalling the former lineage, famed on earth in the ancestry of the sage Chandrodaya, my affection remained because of that.
अतोऽहं कृत्तिकायोगे कार्तिक्यां भक्तिसंयुतः
Therefore, at the conjunction with the Krittikas during Kartika, I was filled with devotion.
भीष्मस्य पञ्चकं चक्रुः सम्यक्छ्रद्धासमन्विताः
They performed the Bhishma Panchaka with proper faith.
ततःप्रभृति तत्कुण्डं विख्यातं धरणीतले
From then onward, that pond became renowned upon the earth.
यः स्नानं सर्वदा तत्र ब्राह्मणः प्रकरोति वै
Any Brahmin who always bathes there,
इतिश्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां षष्ठे नागरखण्डे हाटकेश्वरक्षेत्रमाहात्म्ये ब्रह्मकुण्डमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनाम द्विनवतितमोध्यायः
Thus ends the ninety-second chapter, named 'The Description of the Glory of Brahma-Kunda,' in the Hāṭakeśvara-Kṣetra-Māhātmya of the Nāgara-Khaṇḍa, in the sixth book of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahāpurāṇa.
सूत उवाच अथान्यदपि तत्रास्ति गोमुखाख्यं सुशोभनम्
Suta said: Moreover, there is another place there, called Gomukha, very beautiful.
पुरासीदत्र गोपालः कश्चित्कुष्ठसमावृतः
Once, there was a cowherd here, afflicted with leprosy.
कस्यचित्त्वथ कालस्य तेन मार्गेण गोकुलम्
Then, at some point in time, by that path, he reached Gokula.
एकादश्यां तृषार्त्तं च भास्करे वृषसंस्थिते नीलमालोकितं तत्र दूरादेत्य प्रहर्षिता
On the eleventh day, tormented by thirst, with the sun in Taurus, he saw something blue there from afar and, approaching, was delighted.
दन्तैर्द्रुतं समुत्पाट्य यावदाकर्षति द्विजाः
With his teeth, he quickly uprooted it, and as he drew it out, O twice-born ones,
अथास्वाद्य तृणं तस्मात्तृषार्ता च शनैःशनैः
Then, tasting the grass, he, afflicted by thirst, slowly and gradually...
तस्या वेगेन तत्तोयं पिबन्त्यास्तत्रभूतले
By her force, as she drank that water upon the earth,
ततोऽन्याः शतशो गावः पपुस्तोयं मुनिर्मलम्
Then, hundreds of other cows drank the pure water, O sage.
यथायथा गता गावस्तत्र तोयं पिबंति ताः
As each cow arrived there, they drank the water.
ततश्च गोकुले कृत्स्ने जाते तृष्णाविवर्जिते ६.९३.
Then, in the entire cowshed, thirst was completely removed.
अंगं प्रक्षाल्य पीत्वापो यावन्निष्क्रामति द्रुतम्
After washing his limbs and drinking the water, before he quickly departed,
ततो विस्मयमापन्नो गत्वा स्वीयं निकेतनम्
Then, filled with wonder, he went to his own dwelling.
तृणस्तम्बं यथा धेन्वा तत्रोत्पाट्य प्रशक्तितः
There, a cow forcefully uprooted a clump of grass.
भवंति च विनिर्मुक्ता रोगैः पापैश्च तत्क्षणात्
They become instantly freed from diseases and sins.
ततःप्रभृति तत्ख्यातं तीर्थं गोमुखसंज्ञितम्
From then on, that sacred place became known as Gomukha.
अथ भीतः सहस्राक्षस्तद्दृष्ट्वा स्वर्गदायकम्
Then, Indra, the thousand-eyed, became afraid upon seeing that which grants heaven.
