तस्मात्प्रतिष्ठिते तस्मिंस्त्रैलोक्यं स्यात्प्रतिष्ठितम्
Therefore, when he is established, the three worlds are also established.
एताश्चौषधयः सर्वाः सस्याद्याश्चेह भूतले
All these herbs and crops here on earth—
तस्माद्ब्रह्मादयो देवाः सोमं प्राप्य क्रमाद्द्विजाः
Therefore, O twice-born, Brahma and the other gods, having obtained Soma in due order—
अग्निष्टोमादयो यज्ञास्तथा सोमे प्रतिष्ठिताः
Sacrifices such as Agnishtoma and others are likewise established in Soma.
एतस्मात्कारणात्सोमः सर्वेषामधिकः स्मृतः
For this reason, Soma is considered superior to all.
यथान्येषां सुरेन्द्राणां हर्म्याणि धरणीतले ६.८७.
Just as the palaces of other lords of the gods are on the earth—
यैर्येर्नरैर्निशेशस्य प्रासादो विहितः क्षितौ
And by those men, the palace of the all-pervading one was constructed on earth—
यन्महेश्वरहर्म्याणां सहस्रेण भवेच्छुभम्
Whatever auspiciousness comes from a thousand palaces of Maheshvara—
अथ चन्द्रोत्थहर्म्यस्य माहात्म्यं तद्द्विजोत्तमाः तद्विघ्नार्थमिदं प्रोचुर्मेरुमूर्धानमाश्रिताः
Now, O best of twice-born, the greatness of the palace arising from the moon is as follows; to obstruct it, those who took refuge on the summit of Meru spoke thus.
सौम्यर्क्षे सोमवारेण सौम्ये मासि च संस्थिते सकारैः पंचभिर्युक्ते काले सोमस्य मंदिरम्
When the gentle lunar constellation is present, on a Monday, in the gentle month, and at a time joined with five auspicious conjunctions, the temple of Soma is established.
य एकाहेन संपाद्य प्रासादं स्थापयिष्यति
Whoever constructs a palace in a single day and establishes it,
सहस्रगुणितं सम्यक्छ्रद्धापूतेन चेतसा
With a mind purified by faith, he attains a thousandfold merit.
वंशोच्छेदं समासाद्य नरकं स प्रयास्यति
But if he encounters the destruction of his lineage, he will go to hell.
प्रासादं रात्रिनाथस्य सुपुण्यमपि सद्द्विजाः
Even the palace of the Lord of Night, O virtuous twice-born, is supremely holy.
प्रासादस्त्वंबरीषेण भूभुजा स विनिर्मितः
The palace was constructed by the king Ambarisha.
तस्यैवोत्तरदिग्भागे द्वितीयोऽन्यः प्रतिष्ठितः ६.८७.
In its northern direction, another second palace was established.
ततश्च तौ महीपालौ तत्प्रभावादुभौ द्विजाः
Then, both those kings, O twice-born, by its power,
प्रासादोऽन्यस्तृतीयस्तु क्षेत्रे प्राभासिके तथा
Another third palace was likewise built in the Prabhasa field.
प्रासादत्रयमेतद्धि मुक्त्वात्र धरणीतले एकोऽस्ति नर्मदातीरे पुण्ये रेवोरिसंगमे
These three palaces, having been mentioned here on earth, there is one on the holy bank of the Narmada at the confluence with the Reva.
एतद्वः सर्वमाख्यातं चन्द्रमाहात्म्यमुत्तमम्
All this, the supreme greatness of the moon, has been told to you.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां षष्ठेनागरखण्डे हाटकेश्वरक्षेत्रमाहत्म्ये सोमप्रासादमाहात्म्यवर्णनंनाम सप्ताशीतितमोऽध्यायः
Thus, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the section of eighty-one thousand verses, in the sixth Agarakhaṇḍa, in the greatness of the Hāṭakeśvara field, the seventy-seventh chapter is named 'Description of the Greatness of the Soma Palace.'
चमत्कारी महित्था च महालक्ष्मीस्तथाऽपरा
Camatkārī, Mahitthā, and Mahālakṣmī, and another called Aparā,
अंबावृद्धा चतुर्थी च तासां तिस्रः प्रकीर्तिताः
Ambāvriddhā and Caturthī are the fourth; three of these are named.
एतस्याः सर्वमाचक्ष्व प्रभावं सूतसंभव
Tell me, O Sūta-born, all the power of this place.
यथात्र संस्थिता पूर्वं तत्सर्वं श्रूयतां मम
How it was established here before, listen to all that from me.
चमत्कारमहीपेन पुरमेतद्यदा कृतम् चतस्रो देवता ह्येताः संमतेन द्विजन्मनाम्
When Camatkāra Mahīpāla made this city, these four deities were approved by the twice-born.
अथ तस्य महीपस्य अंबानामाभवत्सुता
Then, to that king, a daughter named Ambā was born.
उभे ते काशिराजेन परिणीते द्विजोत्तमाः
Both of them were married by the king of Kāśī, O best of twice-born.
कस्यचित्त्वथ कालस्य काशिराजस्य भूपतेः
After some time, the king of Kāśī, ruler of the earth,
अथ तैर्निहतः संख्ये सभृत्यबलवाहनः
was slain in battle along with his servants, army, and vehicles.
