Having gone, Viṣṇu, together with the gods, determined upon a plan.
For the purpose of relieving the burden of the earth and for the destruction of the Dānavas.
The god, destroyer of the Daityas' pride, was born in Devakī's womb.
In her was born the mighty Balabhadra, called Halī.
In her, Mādhavī was born, taking the form of horse-faced, united with Vāsudeva, she fell into deep sorrow.
Then all the Yādavas, having performed rites of appeasement and nourishment,
Thus, she, endowed with youth, was likewise afflicted with suffering.
Then, Lord Vishnu, perceiving his sister in that condition,
He swiftly took her, accompanied by Baladeva,
And, devoted to sacrifice, he properly gratified Brahma.
Then Brahma, pleased at the end of the year by the wielder of the Sharnga bow,
By your grace, O noble one, may that which I desire be granted from your auspicious mouth.
Subhadra, renowned by name, giver of heroes, beloved of her husband,
Any man who worships her in this form with devotion,
On the twelfth day of the month of Magha, with fragrant flowers and ointments,
Any woman abandoned by her husband or barren, who is endowed with devotion,
She will become blessed with good children, fortunate, and accompanied by happiness.
Having spoken thus, the four-faced one ceased thereafter.
Taking her, the wide-eyed one whose face resembled the moon's orb,
She descended upon the earth, afflicted by Lakshmi's curse.
The son of Pandu married her, the one with lovely smiles.
All this has been related to you—the origin of Madhavi's birth.
Whoever, mortal, recites this or hears it with devotion,
Thus ends the eighty-fourth chapter, named 'The Description of Subhadra's Attainment after Release from Padma's Curse through Krishna's Austerity,' in the greatness of the Suparna-tirtha at Hatakeshvara, in the Nagarakhanda, the sixth section of the glorious Skanda Mahapurana, comprising eighty-one thousand verses.
Today we have heard all that has arisen from transformation.
By that, O Kamala, you were cursed by the great-souled Brahmin.
From that, you were born with an elephant face, causing great wonder.
She was told by Hari, 'Wait for a little while, O auspicious one.'
Then I descended to the surface of the earth, near the ocean.
But she disregarded the words of that wielder of the Śārṅga bow.
