For this reason, I have imposed this restraint upon him.
If, O auspicious one, you regard me favorably in accordance with my words,
Otherwise, O god, it does not occur, especially when anger is involved.
Therefore, at my command, worship Shankara closely.
Or, O lotus-eyed one, this form remains thus established.
Garuda, afflicted with distress, stands resembling a mass of light.
This alone is the boon for her, O best of twice-born, concerning the two-footed.
Therefore, quickly worship the god crowned with the moon.
By whose power, you will again possess such a form.
Hearing this, Garuda promptly undertook the vow of Pashupata.
He performed Chandrayana, Krichchhra, and also Santapana austerities.
After bathing three times daily, he became devoted to bathing with ashes.
He himself performed worship for him, having bathed him according to the proper rite.
Thus, as he observed the vow and was devoted to recitation and worship, the bestower of boons said, 'I am pleased; ask for whatever you desire, O best of twice-born.'
Favor has been shown to us; this I indeed request.
May I always remain here in the liṅga with you, O Hara, from now on.
And you, endowed with that very form, will especially possess great strength and power.
You shall become so, without doubt, O bird, by my grace.
Then, at that very moment, his two beautiful wings appeared.
Then, having bowed to that god, the bird rejoiced greatly.
If one gives up life through yogic practice in that sacred sanctuary, having undertaken the fast unto death, he is not born again.
Even one who acts sinfully, or is a follower of the Kaula path, or is cruel—
Whoever worships three times a day with a mind purified by faith, even if he stays for a year, is honored in the world of Shiva.
Or, if a person sees him on a Monday—
That person too, without doubt, goes to the temple of Shiva.
Therefore, with all effort, especially in the age of Kali—
One should give up life there, having taken the vow before him.
Thus, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the section of eighty-two thousand verses, in the sixth Nāgara-khaṇḍa, in the greatness of the holy Haṭakeśvara-kshetra, this is the eighty-second chapter, named 'The Description of the Glory of Suparṇeśvara.'
I shall recount to you what has been declared in the Purāṇa.

There was formerly a king named Veṇu, born of the solar dynasty.
