And by those restrained by Daksha, as indicated regarding the lord of birds,
Then, delighted, he spoke to his beloved Vinatā,
By whom a son is born to you, stronger than Indra, the thousand-eyed.
Hearing those words, she immediately drank.
Thus, by drinking that water, he became endowed with energy and power.
By whose strength the nectar was taken, overpowering Purandara.
He who was born beloved of Vishnu and attained the status of his mount.
By whom, after performing austerities here in this very field, O great-souled one,
Wings were first obtained by him, and again such as those.
The sages said: How did the great-souled Garuda gain his wings? Tell us this in detail, O son of Suta, just as it happened.
O best of twice-born, even in Garuda’s childhood, O lord,
He once had a daughter, esteemed and named Madhavi.
She was neither a goddess, nor a gandharvi, nor an asuri, nor a serpent-woman.
Then, for the sake of her marriage, Garuda, lord of birds,
For this daughter of mine, you are the chosen husband, O lord of birds.
You should roam, O best of twice-born, taking this maiden with you.
Then, for that maiden, a suitable and virtuous match,
Thus addressed, the brahmin, together with the maiden, at that very moment—
Whomever the brahmin saw, a youth of tender form,
Some had a very fierce appearance, but their lineage was not pure.
And if someone had a collection of virtues, his appearance was not excellent.
Thus, after wandering the earth for a thousand years—
Once, as the two wandered about, weary from their journey—
They beheld Śvetadvīpa and also the auspicious Badarī.
Then, before them, appeared the sage Nārada, born from Brahmā.
"O sage, where does the lotus-eyed Lord now dwell? Though we have come here, joyful, we have not seen Keśava."
"He always abides in the field of Hāṭakeśvara."
"Therefore, go there without delay to see Him."
"I too am setting out there for His audience."
Then those two foremost of bird-sages, along with the son of Brahmā, the sage,
