"How is it that the power of the mantra is being rendered futile?"
"If you are able, then you alone may act otherwise."
"Otherwise, the power born from Vedic mantras cannot be undone."
"This sacrifice you have performed with Vedic mantras—"

"By my command, he shall become king of the birds."
"For the sake of this king of the gods, my words must be forgiven."
Having spoken thus, they saw Indra, the thousand-eyed, gripped by fear.
They too, seeing Indra trembling with folded hands,
If you again desire the sovereignty of the gods, you must never be disregarded by the wise anywhere, especially by those seeking both worlds.
Therefore, all the twice-born must forgive you, especially according to the words of Daksha.
Let the boon that always dwells in our hearts be granted to you.

Or, without desire, one may worship this auspicious linga.
Mounting Airavata, he then departed for Daksha's sacrifice.
Daksha too performed the sacrifice properly, O best of twice-born.

By those mantras of the Vālakhilyas, filled with great wrath,
And by those restrained by Daksha, as indicated regarding the lord of birds,
Then, delighted, he spoke to his beloved Vinatā,
By whom a son is born to you, stronger than Indra, the thousand-eyed.
Hearing those words, she immediately drank.
Thus, by drinking that water, he became endowed with energy and power.

By whom, after performing austerities here in this very field, O great-souled one,
Wings were first obtained by him, and again such as those.
