His left arm and eye kept twitching repeatedly.
He saw a headless shadow and two suns in the sky.
Nor did Hari see the slow-flowing heavenly river established in the sky.
He saw a woman with loose hair, unclothed, with black teeth, terrifying.
Frightened with fear, he asked, 'What is this, O my teacher?'
'What will happen to me, O wise one? Tell me now if destruction awaits.'
Those who have crossed over and stand on the path, wishing to cross a cow's hoofprint,
By those Atharvan mantras alone, O lord of Shachi, it is not for your sake.
The lord of all the gods seeks your utter destruction.
Hearing those words, Indra, the thousand-eyed, was seized with fear.
O Lord of Creatures, the sages known as the Vālakhilyas are working for our ruin.
Go yourself and restrain them before another is born.
Then Daksha quickly went, surrounded by Indra and the other immortals.
"What is this great and most terrible act you are performing, O sages?"
Seeing Daksha, their own patron, arrive,
they offered him water for welcome, performed worship as was proper, and showed devotion.
"Let the purpose for which you have come be stated at once."
Daksha said: "This is a most terrible act, causing fear to all the gods."
"He has repeatedly mocked me, overstepping in his arrogance."
"To destroy Indra, we have empowered another by the strength of mantras."
"How is it that the power of the mantra is being rendered futile?"
"If you are able, then you alone may act otherwise."
"Otherwise, the power born from Vedic mantras cannot be undone."
"This sacrifice you have performed with Vedic mantras—"
"By my command, he shall become king of the birds."
"For the sake of this king of the gods, my words must be forgiven."
Having spoken thus, they saw Indra, the thousand-eyed, gripped by fear.
They too, seeing Indra trembling with folded hands,
If you again desire the sovereignty of the gods, you must never be disregarded by the wise anywhere, especially by those seeking both worlds.
Therefore, all the twice-born must forgive you, especially according to the words of Daksha.
