Then all the Haihayas, with arrows like venomous serpents,
were afflicted by the sin arising from brahminicide.
No one there was able to display any heroism.
Then, seeing his army broken, the lord of the Haihayas, though enraged and making every effort, was unable to rally them.
Then he drew forth his sword from the scabbard, perfectly pure.
Rāvaṇa, the terror of the worlds, was defeated by the mace of Rudra.
By those auspicious thousand arms, the flow of the Narmadā was restrained.
By the will of fate, no weapon could remove them in any way.
At that moment, Rāma arrived, overcome with wrath.
O sinful lord of the Haihayas, by whose arms my father—
He too, struck down by the radiance of Brahman, was harshly addressed by him.
Then Rāma, best of those who bear arms, attacked his forest of arms.
Then Bhṛgu’s scion, with his axe, severed his head.
Filling great jars, he then gave them to the ascetics.
In the field of Hāṭakeśvara, a pit was made for me by my brothers.
Go swiftly and pour this great blood into it.
By which, with devotion and according to the rite, you may satisfy your own father.
Thus, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the section of sixty-one thousand verses, in the sixth Nāgara-khaṇḍa, in the greatness of the Hāṭakeśvara field, the sixty-seventh chapter named 'The Slaying of Sahasrārjuna' is concluded.
There they brought it, where that pit born of the ancestors was situated.
And Bhārgava, having slain him, took all the blood.
Bhārgava spares neither child nor elder.
He himself slew the kings, both those at their side and others.
In the same way, he takes up the blood and has it taken up with reverence.
Thus, having made the whole earth devoid of Kshatriyas, O destroyer of the Bhṛgus,
Then, after bathing in those streams of blood and gathering many sesame seeds,
In the presence of all the Brahmins and other ascetics,
Then, having made the world free of Kshatriyas, he performed the horse sacrifice.
Then the Brahmins, having obtained their boon, spoke to that best of the Bhṛgus.
Therefore, grant me a place, having made way yourself.
If you do not heed my words today, O lord of rivers,
