गुरुद्रोहरतानां च यत्पापं जायते नृणाम्
The sin that arises for men who betray or rob their teacher,
यत्पापं ब्राह्मणं हत्वा गां च हत्वा प्रजायते
The sin that is produced by killing a Brahmin or by killing a cow,
मित्रद्रोहे च यत्पापं यत्पापं गुरुवंचके
The sin in betraying a friend, and the sin in deceiving a teacher,
यो गां स्पृशति पादेन ब्राह्मणं पावकं तथा
Whoever touches a cow with his foot, or likewise a Brahmin or fire,
कूपारामतडागानां यो भंगं कुरुत नरः
The man who destroys wells, gardens, or ponds,
कृतघ्नस्य च यत्पापं सूचकस्य च यद्भवेत्
The sin belonging to the ungrateful, and whatever sin is for an informer,
मद्यमांसरतानां च यत्पापं जायते नृणाम्
The sin that arises for men addicted to wine and meat,
राजपैशुन्यकर्तॄणां यत्पापं जायते नृणाम् 7.3.29.
The sin that arises for those who slander kings,
वेदविक्रयकर्तॄणां यत्पापं संप्रजायते
The sin that is produced for those who sell the Veda,
दीयमानं द्विजातीनां निवारयति योऽल्पधीः
Whoever, of little understanding, prevents gifts being given to twice-born men,
विश्वस्तघातकानां च यत्पापं समुदाहृतम्
The sin declared for those who kill the trusting,
द्विजद्वेषरतानां हि यत्पापं जायते नृणाम्
The sin that arises for men who delight in hating the twice-born,
परवादरतानां च पापं यच्च दुरात्मनाम्
And the sin of those wicked souls who delight in slandering others,
रात्रौ ये पापकर्माणो भक्षंति दधिसक्तुकान्
Those who, at night, eat curds and fried grain, though engaged in sinful acts,
वृंताकं मूलकं श्वेतं रक्तं येऽश्नंति गृंजनम्
Those who eat brinjal, radish, white or red garlic,
प्रत्ययं च तदा गत्वा व्याघ्रो वाक्यमथाब्रवीत्
Then, having gained certainty, the tiger spoke these words.
न चैतदवगंतव्यं यदयं वञ्चितो मया
Nor should it be thought that he has been deceived by me.
कपिले गच्छ पश्य त्वं तनयं सुतवत्सले 7.3.29.
Go, Kapila, and see your son, O mother devoted to your child.
मातरं भ्रातरं दृष्ट्वा सखीः स्वजनवबांधवान्
Having seen her mother, brother, friends, and relatives,
अश्रुपूर्णमुखी दीना प्रस्थिता गोकुलं प्रति
With her face full of tears, distressed, she set out toward Gokula.
वेपमाना भयोद्विग्ना शोकसागरमध्यगा । ततः स्वगोकुलं प्राप्ता रभमाणा मुहुर्मुहुः
Trembling, agitated by fear, immersed in the ocean of sorrow, she hurried repeatedly and finally reached her own Gokula.
तस्याः शब्दं ततः श्रुत्वा ज्ञात्वा वत्सः स्वमातरम्
Hearing her voice, the calf recognized his mother.
अकालागमनं तस्या रौद्रं भंभारवं तथा
Her arrival at an unusual time was fierce and terrifying.
किमर्थमन्यवेलायां समायाता वदस्व मे
Tell me, for what reason have you come at this unusual hour?
आगताऽहं तव स्नेहात्कुरु तृप्तिं यथेप्सिताम्
I have come out of affection for you; fulfill your desire as you wish.
अपश्चिममिदं पुत्र दुर्लभं मातृदर्शनम्
This meeting with your mother, my son, is rare and will not come again.
व्याघ्रस्य कामरूपस्य दातव्यं जीवितं मया
I must give my life to the tiger who can take any form.
मयाऽद्य तत्र गंतव्यं मृगराजसमीपतः 7.3.29.
Today I must go to the presence of the king of beasts.
श्लाघ्यं हि मरणं मेऽद्य त्वया सह न संशयः
Indeed, dying today with you is praiseworthy for me, without doubt.
एकाकिनाऽपि मर्त्तव्यं यस्मान्मया त्वया विना
Even alone, I must die, since I am without you.
