From that time, that sacred place is called the Śarmiṣṭhā Tīrtha.
Therefore, one should make every effort to bathe there.
This is pure, life-giving, and destroys all sins.
Whoever, rising in the morning, always recites this, O human,
And likewise, when a festival arrives, whoever recites this, O man,
There exists here, renowned in the three worlds, something created by Soma himself.
Whoever worships there on Mondays for a year,
There is no doubt even for those afflicted by consumption; how much more so for those with leprosy and other diseases.
Long ago, Soma worshipped there, afflicted by wasting disease.
Wasting disease arose long ago; how did it come to be pacified?
Tell us all this in detail, O wise one.
The lord of night married there in the presence of the gods, fire, and teachers.
Those who are called stars in the world are praised by the best of twice-born.
Then, among all of them, in the midst of the lord of night,
Afterwards, all the daughters of Daksha abandoned him together.
Then, tormented by desire and afflicted by misfortune,
Father, we whom you gave as wives to the sinful one,
Taking all of them herself, she went to the presence of the moon.
Then Daksha, lord of creatures, spoke to them one by one.
What is this that you are doing, O degraded lord of night?
Even when the proper season arrived, daughters were born to me.
But if a man does not approach his wife, who has bathed after her period, when she is present,
Hearing those words, the lord of the night, embarrassed, with head bowed, said to Daksha, 'I will do as you say.'
Then Daksha, his mind gladdened, gave all his daughters to Himadyuti.
But the Moon, as before, abandoned all the daughters of Daksha.
Then those daughters, distressed, again went to where their father was.
'Father, this great sorrow abides in our hearts,'
'because of what you have done, compelled by that lustful, wicked one.'
'We are not able to bear this pain in our hearts at all.'
'Especially because the lord of the night, forbidden by your words, has scorched us with the pain of misfortune, we wish to abandon our lives.'
