Having spoken thus, that best of Brāhmaṇas went to his own hermitage.
Then, having lost his memory, he quickly saw the creatures standing before him.
Then, the ministers of that king, understanding the effect of the curse—
Thus, in the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, in the section of eighty-one thousand verses, in the sixth, the Nāgara Khaṇḍa, in the greatness of the Śrī Hāṭakeśvara Kṣetra, in the tale of Kalaśeśvara, is the fifty-ninth chapter named 'The Description of King Kalaśa's Attainment of Tigerhood by the Curse of Durvāsas.'
Thus, that king, in the form of a tiger, dwelt in the forest.
Then, after some time, O best of twice-born, in that region—
There is a cow named Nandinī, with full, swelling udders.
She, always at the front of her herd, desiring grass—
There, she saw something endowed with radiance, standing by itself.
Then, standing over it, she poured forth a great quantity of milk.
Thus, she always performed the bathing of that liṅga.
On another day, at that place, the tiger arrived.
Then, as she came there, she fell within his sight.
Then, recalling her young calf tied in the cowshed—
Today I have come alone into this forest, deserted by people.
By the truth and devotion with which I have come today for the sacred bath,
Thus, as Nandini lamented pitifully,
Therefore, O auspicious one, remember your most beloved deity for the sake of heaven.
For the worship of Shiva, death has come to me, bringing auspiciousness.
My calf is tied in the cowshed; thinking of it, I have come here.
For this reason, O tiger, I lament, greatly afflicted by sorrow.
Therefore, great tiger, release me at once, for I am devoted to my child.
If you go back there again, then I will devour you.
Hear these words from my mouth and then act accordingly.
