For ten thousand years, day after day, that fierce conflict continued.
Then, when the tenth millennium had come to its end—
At that time, abandoning heaven, together with all the hosts of gods—
They went to where the Blessed Lord Viṣṇu lay, overcome by yogic sleep.
There, with hymns born of the Vedas, they offered praise in every direction.
Then the Lord of the Universe arose and spoke to the destroyer of Bala: 'You, together with the hosts of gods, have come here of your own accord.'
'Though I am unconquerable in battle, O god, yet I have been defeated in war by them.'
'Now, O slayer of Madhu, existence has been established in heaven.'
Therefore, O Śakra, undertake great austerity for as long as is required.
By that power of ascetic energy, O Vāsava, strength will arise in you.
For the destruction of that demon, declare this to us.
After long deliberation in your mind, consider the sacred places and shrines.
Camatkārapura is a field, O Śakra, that bestows success.
Out of fear of Bāṣkala, the lord of the Dānavas, terrified, they—
Therefore, O Lord of the Gods, you yourself must go there.
Then all the hosts of gods went there to those hermitages.
Vāsudeva too, remembering the Ocean of Milk, went there to that sea.
There, in Śvetadvīpa as before, he made his bed.
Then, when the auspicious second day of Āṣāḍha arrived, with eyes filled with tears, he spoke gentle words.
Viṣṇu, lying asleep upon the waters, is exceedingly dear.
He who, for four months, worships Viṣṇu as he lies upon the waters, observing the vow in full accordance with scriptural injunctions,
In this way, on the second day, for four months, one should worship Hari.
Seeing him endowed with radiance, Janārdana, pleased together with all the hosts of gods, will grant you victory.
Without you, I will not go, even with all the other gods.
He will go to slay my enemies, those who hate the gods.
Having spoken thus, Hari released the Sudarśana discus.
Indra too, going together with it, destroyed everything with the discus.
And Bāṣkali too was completely cut down by that discus.
Likewise, many other mighty Dānavas, proud of their strength, were also slain.
Those gods, Indra and the rest, rejoicing and free from doubt, said: 'By your power, O Lord of gods, all the enemies of the immortals have been slain.'
