सहस्रेणापि वर्षाणां मुखानामयुतैरपि
Even in a thousand years, or with tens of thousands of mouths,
तत्र सिद्धिमनुप्राप्ताः शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः
There, hundreds and thousands have attained success.
अन्यपीठेषु या सिद्धिर्वर्षानुष्ठानतो भवेत्
The success that comes from years of observance at other seats,
यस्तत्राथ र्वणान्मंत्राञ्जपेच्छ्रद्धासमन्वितः
Whoever, with faith, recites mantras there for the fulfillment of wishes,
पुत्रकामो नरस्तत्र पुंलिंगान्यो जपेन्नरः
A man desiring a son should recite the masculine mantras there.
गर्भोपनिषदं तत्र पुत्रकामो जपेन्नरः
There, a man desiring a son should recite the Garbhopaniṣad.
शत्रुलोकविनाशाय यो जपेच्छतरुद्रियम् ॥ तस्मिन्पीठेऽरयस्तस्य सद्यो गच्छंति संक्षयम्
Whoever recites the Śatarudriya there for the destruction of enemy hosts, his enemies are immediately destroyed at that seat.
भूतप्रेतपिशाचादिरक्षार्थं तत्र मानवः
For protection from spirits, ghosts, and fiends, a man should recite there.
कोऽदादिति नरस्तत्र कन्यार्थं यो जपेदृचम् ६.३६.
Who, desiring a maiden, recites the Ṛc there, saying 'Who will give?'
यो भूपालप्रसादार्थमिमं देवा निशं जपेत्
Whoever recites this night and day for the favor of the king, O gods,
स्वस्त्रीस्नेहकृतेयस्तु तं पत्नीभिरिति द्विजाः ॥। जपेद्भार्या भवेत्साध्वी तस्य सा स्नेहवत्सला
For the sake of affection from one's own wife, O twice-born, one should recite 'patnībhiriti'; then his wife will be virtuous and full of loving affection for him.
यो लोकानुग्रहार्थाय जपेददितिरित्यपि
He who, for the welfare of the world, recites 'aditiriti' as well—
वित्तार्थी यो जपेत्तत्र श्रीसूक्तं मनुजो द्विजाः
If a man desires wealth, O twice-born, he should recite the Śrī Sūkta there.
जपेद्रथंतरं साम यानार्थं तत्र यो नरः
Whoever desires a chariot should recite the Rathantara Sāman there.
गजार्थी यो जपेत्तत्र गणानां द्विजसत्तमाः
If one desires elephants, O best of twice-born, he should recite the Gaṇa hymns there.
न तद्रक्षेति यो मन्त्रं जपेद्र क्षाकृते नरः
If a man seeks protection, he should recite the mantra 'na tadrakṣeti' there.
सप्तर्षय इति श्रेष्ठां यो जपेत्तु समाहितः
He who, with concentration, recites 'saptarṣaya iti' will attain the highest.
यदुभी यो जपेत्तत्र ग्रहपीडार्दितो जनः ६.३६.
Whoever is afflicted by planetary distress should recite 'yadubhī' there.
भूतपीडार्दितो यश्च बृहत्साम जपेन्नरः
And whoever is troubled by spirits should recite the Bṛhat Sāman.
यात्रासिद्धिकृते यश्च जपेत्सूक्तं च शाकुनम्
For success in journeys, one should recite the auspicious Śākuna Sūkta.
सर्पनाशाय यस्तत्र सार्पसूक्तं जपेन्नरः
Whoever seeks the destruction of snakes should recite the Sārpa Sūkta there.
विषनाशाय यस्तत्र जपेच्छ्र द्धासमन्वितः
Whoever desires the destruction of poison should recite, with faith, the Śraddhā Sāman there.
स्थावरजगमं वापि कृत्रिमं यदि वा विषम्
Whether the poison is from a stationary or moving creature, or is artificial—
व्याघ्रसाम जपेद्यस्तु तत्र श्रद्धासमन्वितः
He who, with faith, recites the Vyāghra Sāman there—
कृषिकर्मप्रसि द्ध्यर्थं यो जपेल्लांगलानि च
For success in agricultural work, one should recite the Lāṅgala hymns.
ईतिनाशाय तत्रैव जपेद्देवव्रतं नरः
For the removal of calamity, one should recite the Devavrata hymn there.
अनावृष्टिहते लोके पंचेंद्रं तत्र यो जपेत्
When the world is afflicted by drought, one should recite the Pañcendra hymn there.
दंष्ट्राभ्या मिति यस्तत्र नरश्चौरार्दितः पठेत् ६.३६.
If a man is troubled by thieves, he should recite 'daṃṣṭrābhyām' there.
विवादार्थं जपेद्यस्तु संसृष्टमिति तत्र च
Whoever recites the Saṃsṛṣṭa mantra for the sake of dispute—
यो रिपूच्चाटनार्थाय नरो रुद्रशिरो जपेत्
A man who recites the Rudraśiras mantra for the purpose of driving away enemies—
