Then, all the seats that are upon the earth—
On the eighth and fourteenth days, they are worshipped with devotion.
A twice-born should worship the knowledge called Viśoṣiṇī, and also the goddess who moves in the sky, with faith.
Then, at the end of the year, the goddess became pleased with him.
By which, O goddess, I will swiftly dry up the ocean, having uttered the words.
She, having agreed thus, promptly entered into his mouth.
Meanwhile, all the gods arrived there, along with Indra.
Then the sage, composed in mind, set out together with all the gods.
Having gone to the shore of the ocean, he was praised by the dwellers of heaven.
Now I shall immediately dry up the ocean, filled with water.
With a playful gesture, he drank up the entire great ocean, teeming with aquatic beings.
Then, when it became like dry land, those Daityas fought with the best of the gods.
Thereafter, a great and exceedingly fierce battle was fought to the utmost of their power.
Then all the gods, having praised that best of sages, spoke as follows:
O sage, this earth was not made without the ocean.
That knowledge which I worshipped can dry up even a year's rainfall.
The abode of Varuṇa will again be filled up.
A king named Sagara will be born on the earth.
In his lineage, King Bhagiratha will be born.
Then, by the flow of that river, the ocean will again be filled on all sides.
Therefore, O best of sages, ask for whatever boon you desire in your heart.
By the power of mantras, O best of gods, all these have been brought forth.
Therefore, let their abode always remain there by virtue of their power.
And on the eighth and fourteenth days, whoever, endowed with faith,
Therefore, there will be a seat named Citreśvara established there.
Whoever, desiring any wish, performs worship there,
That person, O great sage, will quickly obtain whatever desire he has.
Having thus spoken, all the gods addressed the lord of sages.
Once, Agastya drank it for the accomplishment of the gods’ purpose.
Proclaim to us its measure and its power.
