At that very time, the entire surface of the earth—
No one would lie down to sleep at night upon the earth.
Those who did sleep at night, trusting and devoted to righteousness,
Then all the hosts of gods, deprived of their shares of sacrifice,
After that, they went to the ocean’s edge to destroy the haters of the gods.
Then, deeply distressed, they devised a mantra for the destruction of the ocean.
Without Agastya, this ocean will not be dried up.
In the sacred field of Camatkārapura, that great sage resides.
Thus deciding, all the gods went to his hermitage.
He too, seeing all those excellent gods who had arrived,
Spoke words with joined palms, his voice trembling with joy.
This field of Camatkārapura is also established as pure.
Therefore, tell me what task I should now accomplish.
They, taking refuge in the ocean, are destroying the doers of good.
When destruction comes to the good, surely destruction comes to the gods.
By whom have those excellent Dānavas come within your sight?
Agastya said: At the end of a year, I will dry up the ocean.
Therefore, you all return to your palaces; a year will pass.
Then, having gone together with me, when Varuṇa's abode is dried up—
Then all the hosts of gods returned to their own dwellings.
Then, all the seats that are upon the earth—
On the eighth and fourteenth days, they are worshipped with devotion.
A twice-born should worship the knowledge called Viśoṣiṇī, and also the goddess who moves in the sky, with faith.
Then, at the end of the year, the goddess became pleased with him.
By which, O goddess, I will swiftly dry up the ocean, having uttered the words.
She, having agreed thus, promptly entered into his mouth.
Meanwhile, all the gods arrived there, along with Indra.
Then the sage, composed in mind, set out together with all the gods.
Having gone to the shore of the ocean, he was praised by the dwellers of heaven.
Now I shall immediately dry up the ocean, filled with water.
