Then, seeing the gods afflicted by them, the mighty Viṣṇu,
O Lord, the three worlds are oppressed by those Daityas; today, together with them, O god, reach the earth.
Then Viṣṇu and Rudra, along with the thousand-eyed one and the gods,
Then all those Dānavas, hearing that the gods had arrived,
There arose a great battle between the gods and the Dānavas.
Then a Dānava named Kālaprabhu, proud of his strength, spoke, laughing, with a voice deep as thunderclouds:
Release your thunderbolt, O thousand-eyed one; let me see your prowess.
Then, enraged, Śatakratu hurled his thunderbolt at him.
Then, aiming at Śakra, he threw a heavy mace.
Struck by it, the thousand-eyed one fell unconscious, drenched in blood.
Then Mātali, seeing Valaghātin unconscious,
At that moment, as Indra’s chariot turned away from the battle,
The Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, Viśvadevas, and hosts of Maruts,
Then Madhusūdana, seeing the army shattered by the Dānavas,
Surrounded on all sides by them, Viṣṇu shone brilliantly,
Then, with arrows released from the Śārṅga bow, feathered with heron plumes,
Then all the hosts of Daityas, being slain by the enemy of the gods,
At that moment, a Daitya named Kālakhañja,
He struck Vāsudeva with five sharp stone-tipped arrows,
Then Mādhava released the Sudarśana discus, wreathed in blazing flames, to slay that Daitya,
He too, seeing that discus hurled from Vāsudeva’s hand,
The great Daitya seized it and said, 'Stand, stand!'
Then the wielder of the discus was struck by the Daitya, who had seized the discus,
At that moment, the blessed Tripurāntaka, enraged,
Then, with a blow from his trident, he slew that son of Danu,
Kālaprabha, Prakāla, Kālāsya, and Kālavigraha,
Then all those principal and fierce Dānavas,
Then Indra and Viṣṇu, regaining consciousness and taking up their weapons,
Meanwhile, seeing the sons of Danu defeated,
Then those Daityas, most of whom had been slain, but the stronger ones remained,
