Whether with inguda fruits, jujubes, bilva fruits, or even bhallātaka nuts,
He will attain the highest perfection, difficult even for the gods to obtain.
Sūta said: Having spoken thus, the thousand-eyed one was honored by all of them.
He became invisible, and those best of twice-born remained there.
Then, after some time had passed, they performed intense and great austerity.
There, they established a liṅga of the god of gods, the wielder of the trident.
Whoever worships that liṅga again with devotion, with flowers, incense, and ointments,
This is pure, life-giving, and destroys all sins.
Where the Lord Maheśvara himself, the soul of the universe, resides,
On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Caitra, when the sun is shining,
Therefore, whoever else comes there with devotion to Śaṅkara,
Whoever there performs a śrāddha with full faith and attention,
Or makes a circumambulation—tell me of this in detail.
There is a mountain known as Vindhya on the surface of the earth,
On whose treetops the hands of the wind are entangled,
The inhabitants of whose slopes are unfamiliar with darkness.
On whose slopes, as they fall, the trees shine with blossoms,
Upon which countless deer are seen running here and there,
Whose resinous covering, fragrant, perfumes all directions,
Where the long cries of partridges sound as if others are weeping,
Enveloped on every side by streams flowing here and there,
With whom, in ancient times, rivalry arose with Mount Meru,
O Sun, why do you circle around Meru and not this mountain?
This is the path ordained for me, by which the world is maintained.
His lofty peaks stretch wide, reaching into the sky,
Hearing this in particular, Mount Vindhya became enraged and blocked the path through which the Sun travels in the sky.
Then, seeing his path obstructed, the Lord of Day,
If I now circle this mountain,
Then the order of months, seasons, and worlds would be disrupted; with the festivals and sacrifices lost, great distress would come to the gods.
Thus reflecting deeply in his mind, the radiant one,
