I am pleased with you, O best of twice-born, because of your absence of greed; therefore, quickly come to heaven with me.
Therefore, we shall perform austerities here at the lake for liberation.
Having traversed the earth, full and bounded by the ocean, therefore go; may your welfare increase from this meeting.
Therefore, always accept in your mind that which is firmly desired.
By name, for us and for men, it is the destroyer of all sins.
We shall always remain here, O best of gods.
Thus, it will also become a fulfiller of desires for the worlds.
Whoever, desiring any wish, performs a Śrāddha here—
A man who, free from desire, performs a śrāddha or makes a gift,
And those who here will give up their bodies in your auspicious hermitage,
Whether with inguda fruits, jujubes, bilva fruits, or even bhallātaka nuts,
He will attain the highest perfection, difficult even for the gods to obtain.
Sūta said: Having spoken thus, the thousand-eyed one was honored by all of them.
He became invisible, and those best of twice-born remained there.
Then, after some time had passed, they performed intense and great austerity.
There, they established a liṅga of the god of gods, the wielder of the trident.
Whoever worships that liṅga again with devotion, with flowers, incense, and ointments,
This is pure, life-giving, and destroys all sins.
Where the Lord Maheśvara himself, the soul of the universe, resides,
On the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Caitra, when the sun is shining,
Therefore, whoever else comes there with devotion to Śaṅkara,
Whoever there performs a śrāddha with full faith and attention,
Or makes a circumambulation—tell me of this in detail.
There is a mountain known as Vindhya on the surface of the earth,
On whose treetops the hands of the wind are entangled,
The inhabitants of whose slopes are unfamiliar with darkness.
On whose slopes, as they fall, the trees shine with blossoms,
Upon which countless deer are seen running here and there,
Whose resinous covering, fragrant, perfumes all directions,
Where the long cries of partridges sound as if others are weeping,
