षडक्षरस्य मंत्रस्य अयुतं प्रजपाम्यहम्
Recite ten thousand times the six-syllabled mantra.
तत्प्रभावेन मे स्थैर्यं संजातं यौवनोद्भवम्
By its power, steadfastness arose in me, along with youthful vigor.
सिद्धेश्वरं प्रयास्यामि द्वापरांते ह्यवस्थिते
At the end of Dvapara, I shall go to the lord of Siddhas.
एतत्ते सर्वमाख्यातं मया सूतज मोक्षदम्
All this, O son of Suta, granting liberation, has been told to you by me.
यश्चैतच्छृणुयान्नित्यं सम्यक्छ्रद्धासमन्वितः
Whoever hears this daily, with proper faith,
तस्मात्त्वं हि महाभाग मन्त्रमेनं सदा जप
Therefore, O highly fortunate one, always recite this mantra.
सूत उवाच एतच्छ्रुतं मया पूर्वं सकाशात्तस्य सद्गुरोः
Suta said: This I heard before from that true guru.
धन्यं यशस्यमायुष्यं शत्रुपक्षक्षयावहम्
It brings fortune, fame, long life, and destroys the enemy's side.
एतत्सर्वं समाचक्ष्व विस्तरात्सूतनन्दन
Tell me all this in detail, O son of Suta.
अनपत्यतया तस्य कालश्चक्राम भूरिशः
Because he had no offspring, time passed greatly for him.
ततश्चिन्ता प्रपन्नः स गत्वा देवपुरोहितम्
Then he became anxious and went to the priest of the gods.
भगवंश्चानपत्यस्य वार्द्धकं मे समागतम्
O revered one, old age has come upon me, childless.
तीर्थयात्रां व्रतं वापि शांतिकं वा द्विजोत्तम
A pilgrimage to a sacred place, or the observance of a vow, or a ritual for peace, O best of twice-born.
बृहस्पतिश्चिरं ध्यात्वा सिद्धं प्राह ततः परम्
Bṛhaspati, after meditating for a long time, then spoke the accomplished result.
ततः प्राप्स्यसि सत्पुत्रं वंशोद्धारक्षमं शुभम्
Then you will obtain a virtuous son, capable of continuing the lineage.
ततस्तत्क्षेत्रमासाद्य स सिद्धः श्रद्धयान्वितः
Then, having reached that sacred place, he, accomplished and filled with faith,
ततश्चाराधयामास दिवानक्तमतंद्रितः
Then, without fatigue, he worshipped day and night.
चांद्रायणैस्तथा कृच्छ्रैः पाराकैर्द्विजसत्तमाः ६.३०.
With Cāndrāyaṇa, Kṛcchra, and Pārāka austerities, O excellent twice-born.
ततो वर्षसहस्राभ्यां तस्य तुष्टो महेश्वरः
Then, after a thousand years, Maheśvara was pleased with him.
हंसाद्य तव तुष्टोऽहं तस्मात्प्रार्थय वांछितम्
O Hamsa, I am pleased with you; therefore, ask for your desired boon.
तस्मात्त्वं देहि मे पुत्रान्वंशोद्धारक्ष मान्विभो
Therefore, grant me sons, O Lord, capable of continuing the lineage.
त्वया चैव सदा लिंगे स्थेयमत्र सुरोत्तम
And by you, O best of gods, the liṅga must always be established here.
यो मामत्र स्थितं मर्त्यः पूजयिष्यति भक्तितः
Whoever, with devotion, worships me here while I am established,
यो मे लिंगस्य याम्याशां स्थित्वा मंत्रं जपिष्यति
Whoever, standing in the southern direction of my liṅga, recites the mantra,
एवमुक्त्वा महादेवस्ततश्चादर्शनं गतः
Having spoken thus, Mahādeva then became invisible.
तस्मात्सर्वप्रयत्नेन तल्लिंगं यत्नतो द्विजाः
Therefore, with all effort, O twice-born, that liṅga must be tended with care.
षडक्षरेण मन्त्रेण कीर्तनीयं च शक्तितः ६.३०.
With the six-syllabled mantra, it should be praised according to one's ability.
इति श्रीस्कांदे महापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां षष्ठे नागरखण्डे हाटकेश्वरक्षेत्रमाहात्म्ये सिद्धेश्वरोत्पत्तिवृत्तान्तवर्णनंनाम त्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the thirtieth chapter, named 'The Account of the Origin of Siddheśvara,' in the Hāṭakeśvara Kṣetra Māhātmya, in the Nāgara section, in the sixth book of the glorious Skanda Mahāpurāṇa, comprising eighty-one thousand verses.
यत्र स्नातस्य सर्पाणां न भयं जायते क्वचित्
Where, for one who has bathed, there is never any fear from serpents.
तत्र श्रावणपञ्चम्यां यो नरः स्नानमाचरेत्
