Then, by that power, she too conceived a human child.
She, radiant in form and with lotus-petal eyes, gave birth to a daughter.
Then the sage, knowing by his own knowledge that she was born of his own seed,
filled with great affection, performed the auspicious rites of celebration.
He brought well-prepared, excellent fruits for her sake.
There she grew up, and became known by the name Mṛgāvatī.
Then, as I wandered, I saw her, the doe-eyed maiden.
Recognizing her as a maiden of my own caste, with a lovely smile,
O Brahman, he gave me his own daughter to be my wife.
Thus, that beautiful girl was given to me by him at that very moment.
After a few days, I married her, and she was greatly astonished.
Then, in that well-set forest covered with plants,
she was suddenly bitten by him and fell to the ground.
Then her friends gathered, distressed by her sorrow.
Then I hurried there and saw her fallen upon the ground.
This woman with large, beautiful eyes, so dear to me as my own mind and life—
Today I shall go to the other world together with her.
Surrounded by sons, grandsons, daughters-in-law, and groups of servants—
She whose slender body, sweet voice, and the corners of her ears and eyes—
As I was lamenting in this way, O best of charioteers,
After I had wept there for a long time, together with them, a great funeral pyre—
Then, with difficulty, they took me and brought me back to my own house.
Then, at the end of the night, I rose up, filled with haste.
Driven mad by desire, I wandered here and there.
Where have you gone, O large-eyed one, leaving me alone in this lonely place?
Now, touched by the rays of the dawn, the moon abandons its own light.
This body of the sun, with its red circle, is rising.
The sun, spreading across the sky, torments me greatly.
The lord of elephants himself approaches, bearing her twin breasts.
As I was raving in this way, a great delusion overcame me.
