Such is the power of those present there—what more can be said?
By name, by place, and likewise by power,
All are established, pervading the entire field born of Haṭakeśvara.
Their praise cannot be accomplished even in a hundred years.
There, in that field, a refuge has been made with the auspicious sacred fords.
The sacred fords and shrines that have come together and been established there—these I shall recount to you; listen with full attention.
By merely hearing of them, a man is freed from sin—by meditation, by bathing, by giving, and by touching, O best of twice-born.
Thus ends the twenty-eighth chapter, named 'The Description of the Gathering of All Sacred Fords at the Haṭakeśvara Field,' in the section on the greatness of Haṭakeśvara Field, in the sixth book, the Nāgara section, of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahāpurāṇa.
That field has attained renown on the entire surface of the earth.
From not far in all directions, sages devoted to vows [came there].
In this way, those who bear the liṅga, self-restrained and desiring accomplishment, are present everywhere.
There, O best of twice-born, is a liṅga called Siddheśvara.
On the earth, Śarva—who is ever-auspicious and all-pervading—manifested himself.
The Blessed Hara himself appeared in the form of a liṅga.
Because he was worshipped by a siddha, he is therefore remembered as Siddheśvara.
Whoever, with true devotion, sees or touches that liṅga in purity—
There, hundreds of men in former times attained accomplishment on earth.
Approaching the southern aspect, one should recite its six-syllabled mantra.
He should recite the mantra as many times as the number of days he intends.
A mortal may live even beyond his allotted lifespan, if he is a man.
Sūta said: Speaking thus, referring to that great soul—
Long ago, while I was living here in my father's house—
Passing through my youth, radiant as twelve suns—
At that time, my father saw him and greeted him with devotion.
"Welcome to you, best of Brāhmins! From where have you come here?"
"I wish to perform a rite, if you are willing to serve me."
"I am blessed, I am favored, for you have come to my house."
Having spoken thus, my father then addressed me, O best of Brāhmins.
Then, with humility, I performed all his tasks completely.
These were the tasks of ancient royal sages, gods, demons, and rākṣasas.
