चतुष्पदानामन्येषां विंशतिः पंचभिर्युता
For other quadrupeds, twenty plus five years are given.
तथा पापपरा लोका दुःस्थिताश्च विशेषतः सेवितास्तेऽपि गृध्राद्यैर्यत्र च्छायाविवर्जिताः
Likewise, people devoted to sin are especially unstable; even vultures and others frequent them, where there is no shade.
यत्र धर्मो ह्यधर्मेण पीड्यते सुरसत्तम
O best of the gods, where righteousness is oppressed by unrighteousness.
गुरवश्च तथा शिष्यैः स्त्रीभिश्च पुरुषाधमाः
Where teachers are treated by their students, and women by base men.
यत्र सीदंति धर्मिष्ठा नराः सत्यपरायणाः
Where the righteous, devoted to truth, suffer.
आधयो व्याधयश्चैव तथा पीडा महाद्भुता
Afflictions, diseases, and great suffering also arise.
अल्पायुषस्तथा मर्त्या जायंते वर्णसंकरात्
Mortals of short lifespan are born from the mingling of castes.
न वर्षति घनः काले संप्राप्तेऽपि यथोचिते
The cloud does not rain even when the proper season arrives.
न च क्षीरप्रदा गावो यद्यपि स्युः सुपोषिताः
Cows do not give milk, even if they are well-nourished.
लोका भवंति निःश्रीकास्तथा ये च मलिम्लुचाः ६.२७.
People become destitute of prosperity, as do those who are impure.
तथा तपस्विनः शूद्राः शूद्रा धर्मपरायणाः
Ascetics are found among the Shudras, and Shudras devoted to righteousness.
शूद्राः प्रतिग्रहीतारः शूद्रा दानप्रदास्तथा
Shudras become receivers of gifts, and Shudras also become givers of charity.
पंचगर्तान्खनंत्येव मृत्युकाले नराधमाः
The lowest of men dig five pits at the time of death.
वेदविक्रयकर्तारो ब्राह्मणाः शौचवर्जिताः
Brahmins sell the Vedas and are devoid of purity.
स्वाध्यायरहिताश्चैव शूद्रान्ननिरताः सदा
They are without self-study and always engaged in eating Shudra food.
पाखंडिनो विकर्मस्थाः परदारोपजीविनः
Hypocrites, those engaged in forbidden acts, and those living off others' wives.
न स्वभावात्सहस्राक्ष कथंचिदपि देहिनाम्
O thousand-eyed one, not at all do embodied beings act according to their nature.
नष्टोत्सवाविधर्माणो नित्यं संकरकारकाः
Festivals are lost, unrighteousness prevails, and confusion is ever caused.
ततो ह्रासं प्रयास्यंति वृद्धिं याति कलौ युगे
Therefore, decline will occur; growth happens in the age of Kali.
अल्पत्वाद्दुर्लभत्वाच्च अशक्ता गृहकर्मणि ६.२७.
Because of their weakness and rarity, they are unable in household duties.
नियमाः संयमाः सर्वे मंत्रवादास्तथैव च
All disciplines, restraints, and incantations likewise,
स्वस्वभावविहीनानि हीनानि च तथा जलैः
Are devoid of their own nature and inferior, as are the waters.
तत्र ते संभविष्यंति कुत्सिता ये च मानवाः
There, those humans who are contemptible will arise.
वित्तलोभात्प्रदास्यंति कुत्सिताय नराः सुताम्
Out of greed for wealth, men will give their daughters to the contemptible.
कन्यकाः प्रकरिष्यंति पुरुषैः सह संगतिम्
Young women will form associations with men.
सर्वकृत्येषु दुःशीलाः। सुयत्नेनापि रक्षिताः
In all actions, they will be of poor conduct, even when carefully guarded.
पीडयिष्यंति निर्दोषान्वित्तलोभादसंशयम्
They will oppress the innocent, driven by greed for wealth, without doubt.
संत्यक्ष्यंति युगे तस्मिन्प्राणिद्रोहेऽपि वर्तिनम्
In that age, they will abandon even those who are engaged in risking their lives.
प्रमाणं च सुरश्रेष्ठ चतुर्णामप्यसंशयम्
O best of gods, this is certainly the measure of all four, without doubt.
यश्चैतत्कीर्तयेन्मर्त्यः सदैव सुसा माहितः ६.२७.
Whoever recites this, O mortal, will always be greatly blessed.
