Then, while I was wandering, all my soldiers were lost.
Below me was my brother, endowed with every virtue; but he too, by the result of his deeds, has come to his end.
Then those ascetics said, 'We do not know the city.'
We have no business with kings, nor with directions, nor with cities, O king.
All the flowers and fruits of the trees have withered.
O lord of men, we do not associate or converse with humans.

Therefore, we shall all spend this night here together; in the morning, each may go as he wishes.
As they were speaking thus, the blessed one of fierce rays appeared.
Then the king, standing with respect, addressed those ascetics: 'Therefore, the twilight rite should be performed by all, as is proper.'
Then all those sages, along with the king and the twice-born, did likewise.
By those who desire, by the worlds of desiring women, by those who speak sweet words, she is honored.
Like the ocean of nectar, and like the creeper of the poison tree.
Owls, demons, thieves, those who lust, and wanton women.
Some, by the will of fate, were half-eaten by wild beasts.
Afflicted by hunger and thirst, miserable, burdened with great suffering.
Seeing the king there, they respectfully said, 'By fortune, by fortune!'
Then, the calamity of that king, arising from his army.
Then all those ascetics, and the king with his attendants.
Then, while all of them slept there in the forest.
Then, rising in the morning, having performed the early rituals.
He set out for his own city, together with his attendants.
Then, having reached his own house, the king remained for some time.
And, after some time, having bathed, wearing clean garments, purified.
Then, at the end of his sleep, the ruler of the earth saw him, mounted on a splendid celestial vehicle, praised by the Kinnaras.
May blessings be upon you; I shall now depart for the realm of the gods.
Then, rising in the morning, filled with joy, the king; he too, in that same form, attained the vision of him.
