Then, reaching the forest, he searched everywhere; with keen sight, he examined the difficult and dense woods.
Then, somewhere, he saw the clear footprint of that cow.
Then, seeking those tracks, he went from forest to forest.
Thus, out of desire to see the animal, he made a circumambulation.
At the end of the circumambulation, he indeed found the animal.
In the most auspicious month of Caitra, on the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight,
In this way, through ignorance, that circumambulation was performed by both of them.
By the one who was fasting and mute, and likewise by the animal who was not fasting,
Without bathing and without food, O best of twice-born, by fate both met their end separately as their lifespans expired.
Then the herdsman, who was the son of the lord of Daśārṇa,
Then, having arrived, the king together with that very minister,
At the end of the year, filled with supreme faith, he performed (the rite).
Once, ascetics devoted to vows came there.
Yājñavalkya, Bharadvāja, Śunaḥśepa, and Gālava,
And others, self-controlled, devoted to celibacy,
Seeing them, the king bowed with joined palms.
Then, among them, the king sat down.
Then those sages recited divine tales before the king, the deeds of great souls, foremost among sages.
Of royal sages of old, arising from the Dharmaśāstras.
Then, at some point at the end of the tale, that king (was addressed) by those great sages.
You, together with your minister, should circumambulate this city.
In this region, O best of kings, there are excellent sacred places, as well as other renowned shrines of the deities.
O king, you have never shown even the slightest respect towards them.
Then the king, somewhat embarrassed, spoke these words.
O best of Brahmins, that which you have just now asked me,
Still, it must indeed be done as you truthfully say.
O best of Brahmins, the account of those great sages—
Just as the search was made for his lost animal, so too was the circumambulation of Camatkārapura performed.
And just as the memory of a previous birth arose, due to that very power.
Hearing this, all the sages became delighted with the king.
