Having built the city, he gave it, equal to the city of Indra.
Adorned with pearls, coral, beryl, gems, and gold,
With palaces of crystal, resembling the peaks of Kailāsa,
With splendid, pure, and lofty golden mansions, beautifully decorated,
With jewel-studded stairways and ponds all around; having presented it to the foremost Brahmins, he considered his duty fulfilled.
Remaining always at Śaṃkhatīrtha, he then summoned his sons.
Having built this city and offered it to the Brahmins, you must carefully protect it by my command.
So that all the Brahmins may be happy and joyful; any king who protects them with devotion will also attain supreme glory on earth.
Unconquerable by all enemies, endowed with splendor and great prosperity.
Rich in sons, grandsons, and loyal servants, long-lived and free from disease.
But whoever is filled with hatred will not escape suffering.
Having encountered sorrows and witnessed many defeats,
And having faced the destruction of his lineage, he will go to the abode of Yama; by my special word, those who desire their own welfare—
Thus, having spoken all this, that king remained steadfast in austerity.
Sūta said: Thus, having entrusted the kingdom to his sons, the lord of the earth—
Then began to worship the great god Maheśvara.
That king lived on fruits alone for a hundred years.
After that, he subsisted on water for another hundred years.
Then, when a hundred years had passed, Mahādeva was pleased.
He said, 'I am satisfied; ask from me whatever you desire.'
By the greatness of Hāṭakeśvara, all sins are destroyed.
Therefore, by your residence there, it will become even more pure again.
I myself have established this foremost place and dedicated it to the Brāhmaṇas.
There, by my command, you must always reside.
It is known by the name Acaleśvara in all three worlds.
Any mortal who beholds me established there with devotion—
On the fourteenth day of the bright half of Māgha, whoever worships my liṅga—
Whatever sin was committed in childhood, old age, or even in youth—
Therefore, O king, establish my liṅga right here.
Then that king quickly built a most delightful temple.
