Then the lord of the gods began to ponder how to fill it.
Then the worshipful one among the gods himself spoke to Shatakratu.
Here is the foremost of mountains, renowned by the name Himalaya.
Mainaka is said to be the first, and the second is Nandivardhana.
That Mainaka entered the ocean, O Shakra, out of fear of you.
This Nandivardhana is mentioned as the second.
By the command of Himachala and the noble sage Vasistha,
the third, known here as Raktashringa, still stands today.
O lord of the gods, this cavern cannot be filled in any other way.
Hearing the words of the worshipful deity, the lord of the gods
then went and spoke these words to him, first with conciliation.
Then, having gone, the men worshipped the god Hatakeshvara in the netherworld.
Even those who are devoted to sin will worship.
Therefore, take this son, Raktaśṛṅga, to that place in the Himalayas.
You, O mountain, must offer hospitality to me as I arrive at your home.
He replied, 'Certainly,' and after worshipping the divine guest,
For your sake, O son, the thousand-eyed one has come near me.
Having fulfilled my command, you must give everything to Śakra.
Where thorny trees grow, harsh and devoid of fruit,
There are neither Siddhas nor Gandharvas, nor gods nor Kinnaras.
Likewise, humans there are engaged in sinful conduct, devoid of virtue.
Thus, O best of mountains, both my wings have been cut.
Therefore, O thousand-eyed one, devise some supreme means for that.
Even there, beautiful trees will arise as your refuge.
Likewise, holy pilgrimage sites and abodes of deities will be there.
Such is the power of yours, O mountain, delight of the gods, while you remain here.
Likewise, even those humans there, sinful in nature, upon the earth,
Therefore, go quickly there with me, O son of the mountain.
Having entered, arriving swiftly, he went into that serpent's cave.
Immersed, O best of Brāhmaṇas, up to the tip of the nose, amidst trees, bushes, and vines, frequented by delightful birds.
