रत्नकुट्टिमभूभागा गोपुराग्रेषु रेजिरे
Floors inlaid with gems shone at the tops of the gateways.
अचेतनान्यपि तदा चेतनानीव संबभुः
Even inanimate things then seemed to become alive.
तेषामेव हि सर्वेषां तत्तु जन्मदिवाभवत् 4.2.98.
For all of them, that day became like a day of birth.
अथाभिषिक्तश्चतुराननेन महर्षिवृंदैः सह देवदेवः
Then, anointed by the Four-Faced One together with the hosts of great sages, the God of gods—
रत्नैरसंख्यैर्बहुभिर्दुकूलैर्माल्यैर्विचित्रैर्लसदिष्टगंधैः
With countless jewels, fine cloths, garlands, and fragrant unguents shining in variety—
रत्नाकरैश्चापि गिरींद्रव्यैर्यथा स्वमन्यैरपि पुण्यधीभिः
And with treasures from jewel-mountains, and other precious offerings from the pious—
संतोष्य सर्वान्प्रथमं मुनींद्रान्स्वैस्वैर्हृदिस्थैश्च चिराभिलाषैः
First, satisfying all the great sages with their long-cherished desires from their own hearts—
इतो निषीदेति समानपूर्वं त्वं मे समस्तप्रभुतैकहेतुः
"Sit here," he said, as before, "for you alone are the sole cause of all my sovereignty."
त्वया दिवोदास नरेंद्रवर्यः सदूपदेशैश्च तथोपदिष्टः
By you, O best of kings, Divodāsa was instructed with excellent teachings.
विष्णो वरं ब्रूहि य ईप्सितस्ते नादेयमत्रास्ति किमप्यहो ते
"O Vishnu, speak your desired boon; here, nothing is withheld from you at all."
श्रुत्वेति वाक्यं जगदीशितुश्च प्रोवाच विष्णुर्वरदं महेशम्
Hearing these words from the Lord of the universe, Vishnu addressed the boon-giving Mahesha.
श्रुत्वेति वाक्यं मधुसूदनस्य जगाद तुष्टो नितरां पुरारिः 4.2.98.
Hearing the words of Madhusudana, the delighted destroyer of cities spoke.
आदावनाराध्य भवंतमत्र यो मां भजिष्यत्यपि भक्तियुक्तः
If anyone here, without first worshipping you, worships me with devotion—
सर्वत्र सौख्यं मम मुक्तिमंडपे संतिष्ठमानस्य भवेदिहाच्युत
Let happiness everywhere be for me, O Achyuta, for the one who stands in my hall of liberation.
निमेषमात्रं स्थिरचित्तवृत्तयस्तिष्ठंति ये दक्षिणमंडपेत्र मे
Those whose minds remain steady for even a moment in the southern pavilion of mine—
संस्नाय ये चक्रसरस्यगाधे समस्ततीर्थैक शिरोविभूषणे
Those who bathe in the deep lake of the wheel, adorned as the foremost of all sacred bathing places—
स्मरंति ये मामपवर्गमंडपे किंचिद्यथाशक्ति ददत्यपि स्वम्
Those who remember me in the pavilion of liberation and, according to their ability, offer even a little of their own—
उपेंद्रतप्तानि तपांसि तैश्चिरं स्नाता हि ते चाखिलतीर्थसार्थकैः
Those who perform austerities heated by Upendra, and who have bathed for long with all the companions of the sacred places—
तीर्थानि संतीह पदेपदे हरे तुला क्व तेषां मणिकर्णिकायाः
Sacred places are found at every step in the path of Hari; where is the comparison to Maṇikarṇikā among them?
कैवल्यमंडपस्यास्य भविष्ये द्वापरे हरे
In the pavilion of liberation, this will exist in the Dvāpara age, O Hari.
तथा ख्यातिमसौ गंता यथा देवेन भाषितम्
Thus its fame will spread as spoken by the god.
अग्रवेदीसमाचारस्त्यक्ततीर्थप्रतिग्रहः ।। 4.2.98.
The proper conduct at the foremost altar is to renounce accepting gifts from sacred places.
अदांभिकोऽक्रूरमनाः सदैवातिथिवल्लभः
He is without deceit, with a gentle mind, always dear to guests.
विषमेषु शरैस्तीव्रैः कारितस्त्वपदे पदम्
In difficult circumstances, struck by sharp arrows, you made your step at the foot.
तया च प्रेरितोऽपेयं पपौ चापि विमोहितः
Prompted by her, he drank what was not to be drunk and was bewildered.
वैष्णवान्धनिनो दृष्ट्वा क्षणं वैष्णववेषभृत्
Seeing those bound to Viṣṇu, even for a moment, wearing the attire of a Vaiṣṇava—
शिवभक्तान्समालोक्य किंचिच्च परिदित्सुकान्
Beholding devotees of Śiva, and some who wished to give a little—
शिखी चोपग्रहकरः सर्वेभ्योऽसत्प्रतिग्रही
The tufted one, with the gesture of acceptance, took improper gifts from all.
एवं तस्य प्रवृत्तस्य कश्चित्पर्वतदेशतः
Thus, as he acted, someone from a mountain region—
स्नात्वा स चक्रसरसि कथयिष्यति चेति वै
Having bathed in the lake of the wheel, he will narrate, thus it is said.
