Today is the seventeenth conjunction; separation arising now is inauspicious.
Do not go today, O goddess; you will not see me again.
Even without this body, I will serve you as your attendant.
Whether woman or man, one whose mind is agitated—
O goddess, one should not go further, desiring great honor or wealth.
Just as a river that has reached the ocean does not return again.
In the same way, you alone will be my protector in another life.
Having spoken thus, the goddess departed, her eyes blinded by anger.
She did not bow to Mahadeva, nor did she circumambulate him.
Without saluting the great lord, and without making a circumambulation,
That queen, who walked on foot, left the lord of the three worlds.
The god also, seeing Sati departing on foot,
said to the attendants, 'Bring the aerial chariot, driven by the mind and wind.'
It was adorned with great banners fluttering in the wind, and marked by the signs of great wisdom and dice.

Upon that chariot, the sun and moon stood as umbrellas.
There, the Gayatri herself, along with ropes, axes, and other implements, served as the yoke.
Its parts were guardians, and the host of metres formed its protective array.
Making that chariot, now protected by the goddess, ready, the attendants brought it to the sky.
For a moment, the beloved of the three-eyed one gazed at the assembly hall of Daksha.
She did not enter the sacrificial enclosure, glancing about with anxious guards.
She saw her sisters, adorned with new ornaments, along with their husbands.
Uninvited and unconsidered, the beloved of Hara descended from the chariot.
Without speaking to any of the fathers, Sati went near Daksha.
'Why was I not invited, as these sisters of mine were?'
This fault is not yours in the least; truly, this fault is mine alone.
Having acted in such a manner, I gave you to a husband by my own command and judgment.
Then, how could I have given you to him, who is the very embodiment of illusion?
He was described in many ways by the Grandfather before me.
He is Śrīkaṇṭha, he is Maheśa, he is omniscient, he is the one bearing the bull-banner.
Therefore, O blameless one, on the word of the hundred-handed, I gave you to him.
