Then that young girl, seeing him, whose form was exceedingly charming—
—whose two arms shone beautifully, marked with the conch and discus—
—a tree in human form, sprung from the seed of devotion to Bhavānī—
Leaving her swing-couch, her neck bent low with the weight of modesty—
"Who are you here, O sweet-formed one, in the house of Death?"
"Before that fierce one with the terrible form arrives—"
"The wicked Kaṃkālaketu, invulnerable to others' weapons—"
"He is not able to break my vow of maidenhood, by Umā's boon—"
"That evil-minded one, whose life is ended by my curse, seeks to do so—"
"He is called a Vidyādhara, and is hidden in the armory—"
Then, in the evening, the demon of terrifying form arrived—
The fierce demon came, roaring like the clouds at dissolution—
"O most beautiful one, accept these divine jewels—"
"I will give you, O lovely one, ten thousand maidservants tomorrow—"
"Hundreds upon hundreds of Gandharvī, human, and Kinnarī women—"
"Eight hundred Rakshasi women, and a hundred of the best Apsaras—"
"All the wealth and treasures found in the houses of the guardians of the directions—"
"You shall enjoy divine pleasures with me, as my consort—"
The touch and embrace of your body is rich with the abundance of delight.
For a long time, these desires have steadily arisen in my heart.
Having conquered all the gods in battle, including Indra, O doe-eyed one,
He, murmuring 'Lay the trident on your lap and sleep,'
That Vidyadhara maiden, remembering her boon, with Gauri in mind,
Summoned that best of men, beautiful in every limb, as her boon.
Taking the trident from her lap, she said, 'Take this and quickly strike him.'
Then that mighty-armed, friend-conquering king took it up.
With a blow from his left foot, he struck him, fearless.
He shouted, 'Stand, you wicked one, eager to violate a maiden!'
Hearing this, the son of Danu, alarmed, rose up.
By you, in a deceptive form, the powerful ones like Kaitabha were slain.
