यद्वाच्यं बहुभिर्ग्रंथैस्तदष्टाभिरिहाक्षरैः
What is to be expressed in many texts is here conveyed in these eight syllables.
याज्ञवल्क्यो मुनिवरः प्रोक्तवान्मुनिसंसदि
The sage Yājñavalkya spoke this among the assembly of sages.
स्वामिनापि जगद्धात्री पुरतो मंदराचले
Even by the Lord, before the Mother of the world, on Mount Mandara.
कृष्णद्वैपायनोप्येवं शंभो वक्ष्यति नान्यथा
So too will Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana speak thus, O Śambhu, and not otherwise.
वदंत्यन्येपि मुनयस्तीर्थसंन्यासकारिणः
Other sages also declare this, those who have taken up renunciation at holy places.
वयमप्येवं जानीमो यत्र स्वर्गतरंगिणी
We too know thus, where the heavenly river flows.
भूतं भावि भविष्यं यत्स्वर्गे मर्त्ये रसातले
Whatever has been, is, or will be—in heaven, on earth, or in the netherworld—
अतो हिरण्यगर्भोक्तं हरिप्रोक्तं मुनीरितम् 4.2.79.
Therefore, what was spoken by Hiraṇyagarbha, by Hari, and by the sages—
करामलकवत्सर्वमेतद्ब्रह्मांडगोलकम्
All this universe, like an amalaki fruit in the palm, is encompassed.
धर्मराजस्य तपसा तिर्यञ्चोपि वयं विभो
By the austerity of Dharmarāja, even we, O Lord, though animals, are so.
मधुरं मृदुलं सत्यं स्वप्रमाणं सुसंस्कृतम्
Sweet, gentle, true, self-evident, and well-refined—
देवोतिविस्मयापन्नो ऽवर्णयत्पीठगौरवम्
Overcome with wonder at the gods, he described the majesty of the seat.
तत्रापि भोगभवनमनर्घ्यमणिनिर्मितम्
There, too, is a palace of enjoyment, fashioned from priceless jewels.
पतत्त्रिणो पिमुच्यंते यं कुर्वाणाः प्रदक्षिणम्
Celestial birds fly around it, performing circumambulation.
मोक्षलक्ष्मीविलासाख्य प्रासादस्य विलोकनात्
By beholding the palace called 'Sport of the Fortune of Liberation,'
मोक्षलक्ष्मीविलासस्य कलशो यैर्निरीक्षतः
Those who gaze upon the pinnacle of the Sport of the Fortune of Liberation,
दूरतोपि पताकापि मम प्रासादमूर्धगा
Even from afar, the banner atop my palace is visible.
भूमिं भित्त्वा स्वयं जातस्तत्प्रासादमिषेण हि 4.2.79.
It arose of itself, piercing the earth, because of the merit of that palace.
ब्रह्मादिस्थावरांतानि यत्र रूपण्यनेकशः
There, forms from Brahma down to immovable beings appear in many ways.
ससौधो मेखिले लोके स्थानं परमनिर्वृतेः
In the world encircled by walls, there is a mansion, the place of supreme bliss.
मम सर्वगतस्यापि प्रासादोयं परास्पदम् अमूर्तं तदहं मूर्तो भूयां भक्तकृपावशात्
Though I am all-pervading, this palace is my supreme abode; though formless, I become embodied there by the power of devotion and compassion.
नैःश्रेयस्याः श्रियो धाम तद्याम्यां मंडपोस्ति मे
That is the abode of the highest fortune; in Yama's realm, I have a pavilion there.
निमेषार्धप्रमाणं च कालं तिष्ठति निश्चलः
Time stands still there, lasting only half the measure of a blink.
निर्वाणमंडपं नाम तत्स्थानं जगतीतले
That place on earth is called the Pavilion of Liberation.
प्राणायामं तु यः कुर्यादप्येकं मुक्तिमंडपे
Whoever practices even a single breath-control in the Pavilion of Liberation,
निर्वाणमंडपे यस्तु जपेदेकं षडक्षरम्
Whoever recites the six-syllabled mantra even once in the Pavilion of Liberation,
शुचिर्गंगांभसि स्नातो यो जपेच्छतरुद्रियम्
Who, pure and bathed in the waters of the Ganga, recites the hundred Rudra hymns,
ब्रह्मयज्ञसकृत्कृत्वा मम दक्षिणमंडपे 4.2.79.
Whoever performs the Brahma-yajña even once in my southern pavilion,
धर्मशास्त्रं पुराणानि सेतिहासानि तत्र यः
Whoever, there, studies the Dharma-śāstra, the Purāṇas, and the Itihāsas,
तिष्ठेदिंद्रियचापल्यं यो निवार्य क्षणं कृती
Who, restraining the restlessness of the senses, stands there for even a moment, accomplished—
