सा तु बाल्ये व्यतिक्रांते किंचिदुद्रिन्नयौवना 4.2.76.
When her childhood had passed, and she had entered the first flush of youth,
पितस्त्रिलोचनं काश्यामर्चयित्वा दिनेदिने
Her father, every day, worshipped the three-eyed one in Kāśī.
एवं नागकुमारी सा सखीद्वयसमन्विता
Thus, that Nāga maiden, together with her two companions,
दिनेदिने सा प्रत्यग्रैः कुसुमैरिष्टगंधिभिः
Day by day, with fresh flowers of desired fragrance,
तिस्रोपि गीतं गायंति लसद्गांधारसुंदरम्
The three of them would sing songs, beautifully adorned with melodious notes.
वीणावेणुमृदंगांश्च लयतालविचक्षणाः
Skilled in rhythm and tempo, they played the vīṇā, flute, and mṛdaṅga.
इत्थमाराधयंतीशं तिस्रो नागकुमारिकाः
In this way, the three Nāga maidens worshipped the Lord.
एकदा माधवे मासि तृतीयायामुपोषिताः
Once, in the month of Mādhava, on the third day, they fasted.
प्रातश्चतुर्थीं स्नात्वाथ तीर्थं पैलिपिले शुभे
In the morning, on the fourth day, after bathing at the auspicious Pailipila ford,
सुप्तासु तासु बालासु त्रिनेत्रः शशिभूषणः
While those girls slept, the three-eyed one, adorned with the moon,
तमालनीलसुग्रीवः स्फुरत्फणिविभूषणः ।4.2.76.
With a neck dark as a tamāla tree, adorned with shining serpent ornaments,
जय श्मशाननिलय जय वाराणसीप्रिय 4.2.76.
Victory to you, O dweller in the cremation ground, victory to you, beloved of Vārāṇasī!
जन्मांतरेपि मे सेवा भवतीभिश्च तेन च 4.2.76.
Even in another birth, service was rendered to me by you and by him.
उपरिष्टादधस्ताच्च कृता बह्व्यः प्रदक्षिणाः 4.2.76.
Many circumambulations were performed above and below.
अप्राप्तयौवनः सोथ समिदाहरणाय वै 4.2.76.
Not yet having reached youth, he indeed went to gather kindling.
जातिस्वभावचापल्यात्क्रीडंत्यौ च प्रदक्षिणम् 4.2.76.
Out of innate nature and restlessness, the two played while circumambulating.
एकदा माधवे मासि महायात्रा समागता 4.2.76.
Once, in the month of Mādhava, a great festival was assembled.
त्रिलोचनकथामेतां श्रुत्वा पापान्वितोप्यहो
Ah! Even one afflicted by sin, upon hearing this tale of the Three-Eyed One—
वद केदारमाहात्म्यं भक्तानामनुकंपया
Tell the glory of Kedāra, out of compassion for the devotees.
तस्मिँल्लिंगे महाप्रीतिस्तव काश्यामनुत्तमा
In that liṅga, your supreme love in Kāśyā is unsurpassed.
समाकर्ण्यापि यां पापोप्यपापो जायते क्षणात्
Even by merely hearing it, a sinner becomes free from sin in an instant.
केदारं यातुकामस्य पुंसो निश्चितचेतसः
For a man desiring to go to Kedāra, with a resolute mind—
गृहाद्विनिर्गते पुंसि केदारमभिनिश्चितम्
When a man leaves his house, firmly intent on Kedāra—
मध्ये मार्गं प्रपन्नस्य त्रिजन्मजनितं त्वघम्
For one who has entered the path midway, the sin accumulated over three births—
सायंकेदारकेदारकेदारेति त्रिरुच्चरन्
In the evening, by uttering 'Kedāra, Kedāra, Kedāra' three times—
दृष्ट्वा केदारशिखरं पीत्वा तत्रत्यमंबु च
Having seen the peak of Kedāra and drunk the water there—
हरपापह्रदे स्नात्वा केदारेशं प्रपूज्य च
Having bathed in the lake that removes the sins of Hara, and worshipped the Lord of Kedāra—
सकृत्प्रणम्य केदारं हरपापकृतोदकः 4.2.77.
By bowing once to Kedāra, the water created by Hara for the removal of sin—
हरपापह्रदे श्राद्धं श्रद्धया यः करिष्यति
Whoever performs śrāddha with faith in the lake that removes the sins of Hara—
पुरा राथंतरे कल्पे यदभूदत्र तच्छृणु
