माधवी मधुरालापा सदोंकारं समर्चयेत्
Mādhavī, with her sweet speech, would worship accompanied by the sound of Om.
प्राग्जन्मवासनायोगादोंकारं बह्वमंस्त वै
Because of the influence of impressions from previous births, she greatly revered the sound of Om.
दमनस्थैर्यमगमद्योगेनेव महात्मनः
Through the practice of self-restraint and steadfastness, she attained the state of a great soul.
अतंद्रितमना आसीत्सा तल्लिंग निरीक्षणे
Her mind was unwavering, and she sat observing that emblem.
तावत्कालस्तया साध्व्या महान्विघ्नोऽनुमीयते लिंगानवेक्षणात्तत्र प्रायश्चित्तं कथं भवेत
For as long as that virtuous woman remained, a great obstacle was perceived due to not observing the emblem; what expiation could there be for this?
इति संचितयंत्येव सेवां तत्याज नोंकृतेः
Thus, while she was accumulating service, she did not abandon the worship of Om.
नान्य द्दिदृक्षिणी तस्या अक्षिणी श्रुतिगे अपि 4.2.74.
Her eyes desired to see nothing else, nor did her ears wish to hear anything else.
तस्याः शब्दग्रहौ नान्य शब्दग्रहणतत्परौ
Her faculties of hearing were not engaged with anything else, nor were they intent on grasping other sounds.
नान्यत्र चरणौ तस्याश्चरतः सुखवांछया
Her feet did not wander elsewhere, but moved only in pursuit of happiness.
ओंकारं प्रणवं सारं परब्रह्मप्रकाशकम्
Om, the sacred syllable, is the essence, revealing the Supreme Brahman.
सदक्षरं चादिरूपं विश्वरूपं परावरम्
It is the eternal syllable, the primal form, the form of the universe, transcending both the higher and lower.
सर्वलोकैकजनकं सर्वलोकैकरक्षकम्
It is the sole creator of all worlds and the sole protector of all worlds.
आद्यंतरहितं नित्यं र्शिवं शंकरमव्ययम्
It is without beginning or end, eternal, auspicious, beneficent, and imperishable.
निरुपाधिं निराकारं निर्विकारं निरंजनम्
It is without attributes, without form, without change, and unstained.
स्वात्माराममनंतं च सर्वगं सर्वदर्शिनम्
The limitless one, delighting in his own self, who is all-pervading and all-seeing.
वागिंद्रियं तदीयं च प्रोच्चरत्तदहर्निशम्
His speech and senses, ever active, utter forth day and night.
एतन्नामाक्षररसं रसयंती दिवानिशम् 4.2.74.
Those who savor the essence of these syllables, do so day and night.
संमार्जनं रंगमालाः प्रासादं परितः सदा
Sweeping, garlands for the stage, and the temple always encircled.
तत्र पाशुपता ये वै प्रणवेशार्चने रताः
There, those devoted to Pashupati, delight in worshipping the lord of the Pranava.
वैशाखस्य चतुर्दश्यामेकदा सा तु माधवी
On the fourteenth day of Vaishakha, once, that festival of Madhava occurred.
यात्रामिलितभक्तेषु प्रातर्यातेषु सर्वतः
When the devotees gathered for the pilgrimage, having arrived everywhere in the morning.
गायंती मधुरं गीतं नृत्यंती निजलीलया
They sing sweet songs and dance in their own playful manner.
अनेनैव शरीरेण पार्थिवेन महामतिः
With this very earthly body, the great-minded one.
प्रादुर्बभूव यल्लिंगाज्ज्योतिर्जटिलितांबरम्
Manifested from the linga, a radiant form, clothed in matted locks.
राधशुक्लचतुर्दश्यामद्यापि क्षेत्रवासिनः
Even today, on the fourteenth day of Radha's bright fortnight, the residents of the sacred place.
तत्र जागरणं कृत्वा चतुर्दश्यामुपोषिताः
There, keeping vigil on the fourteenth day, having fasted.
ब्रह्मांडोदर मध्ये तु यानि तीर्थानि सर्वतः 4.2.74.
Within the middle of the cosmic egg, all the sacred places everywhere.
सर्वाण्यायतनान्याशु साब्धीनि स गिरीण्यपि ।। 4.2.74.
All the shrines, quickly, and even the seas and mountains.
ये निंदंति महादेवं क्षेत्रं निंदंति येऽधियः 4.2.74.
Those who revile Mahadeva, and those who revile the sacred place, O wise one.
ओंकारसदृशं लिंगं न क्वचिज्जगतीतले
Nowhere on the surface of the world is there a linga like Omkara.
