तत्पीठदर्शनादेव विरजा जायते नरः
By merely seeing that seat, a man becomes pure.
तीर्थं पिलिपिलाख्यं तद्द्युनद्यंभसि विश्रुतम्
The sacred place called Pilipilā, renowned in the waters of the Dyunadī river,
विष्टपत्रितयांतर्ये देवर्षिमनुजोरगाः
In the midst of the three worlds, gods, sages, men, and serpents—
तदारभ्य च तत्तीर्थं तच्च लिंगं त्रिलोचनम्
From that time, that sacred place and that liṅga of the Three-eyed One—
त्रिविष्टपस्य लिंगस्य महिमोक्ताः पिनाकिना
The greatness of the liṅga of Triviṣṭapa was declared by Pinākin.
सर्वदृक्सर्वजनक किंचित्पृच्छामि तद्वद
O all-seeing, progenitor of all, I wish to ask something—please tell me.
इदं तव प्रियं क्षेत्रं कर्मबीजमहौषधम्
This, your beloved field, is the great medicine-seed of karma.
यत्क्षेत्ररजसोप्यग्रे त्रिलोक्यपि तृणायते 4.2.73.
Even the dust of this field, at the beginning, makes the three worlds seem like straw.
यानीह संति लिंगानि तानि सर्वाण्यसंशयम्
All the liṅgas that are here—of these, there is no doubt.
यद्यप्येवं तथापीश विशेषं वक्तुमर्हसि
Even so, O Lord, you should speak of the special one.
यत्र देवः सदा तिष्ठेत्संवर्तेऽपि स वल्लभः
Where the god always abides, even at the dissolution, that is most dear.
येषां स्मरणतोप्यत्र भवेत्पापस्य संक्षयः
By merely remembering them here, the destruction of sin occurs.
येषां समर्चनादेव मध्ये जन्म सकृद्विभो
By worshipping them even once in this life, O Lord,
विधाय मय्यनुक्रोशं कारुण्यामृतसागर
Show me compassion, O ocean of nectar-like mercy.
इत्याकर्ण्य महेशानस्तस्या देव्याः सुभाषितम्
Having heard the noble words of that goddess, Mahesha listened attentively.
यन्नामाकर्णनादेव क्षीयंते पापराशयः
By merely hearing that name, the roots of sin are diminished.
इदं विदंति नैवापि ब्रह्मनारायणादयः
Even Brahma, Narayana, and others do not know this.
असंख्यातानि लिंगानि पार्वत्यानंदकानने 4.2.73.
Countless lingas are found in Parvati’s blissful forest.
नानाधातुमयानीशे दार्षदान्यप्यनेकशः
O Lord, there are many made from various metals, and also numerous stone ones.
सिद्धचारणगंधर्व यक्षरक्षोर्चितान्यपि
There are also those worshipped by Siddhas, Charanas, Gandharvas, Yakshas, and Rakshasas.
दिग्गजेर्गिरिभिस्तीर्थेर्ऋक्ष वानर किन्नरैः
Established by elephants of the directions, mountains, sacred places, bears, monkeys, and Kinnaras.
प्रतिष्ठितानि यानीह मुक्तिहेतूनि तान्यपि
Those which are installed here are also causes of liberation.
भग्नान्यपि च कालेन तानि पूज्यानि सुंदरि
Even those broken by time, O beautiful one, are worthy of worship.
गंगाभस्यपि तिष्ठंति षष्टिकोटिमितानिहि
On the banks of the Ganga, sixty million of them stand.
गणनादिवसादवार्ङ्ममभक्तजनैःप्रिये
Due to counting and other reasons, O beloved, they are neglected by those lacking devotion.
त्वया तु यानि पृष्टानि यैरिदं क्षेत्रमुत्तमम्
But those about which you have asked, by which this field is made supreme—
कलावतीव गोप्यानि भविष्यंति गिरींद्रजे
O daughter of the mountain, they will remain as secret as the arts.
कलिकल्मषपुष्टा ये ये दुष्टा नास्तिकाः शठाः 4.2.73.
Those corrupted by the sins of Kali, those wicked, atheists, and deceitful ones—
नामश्रवणतोपीह यल्लिंगानां शुभानने
Even by hearing the names of these lingas here, O auspicious-faced one—
ओंकारः प्रथमं लिंगं द्वितीयं च त्रिलोचनम्
Omkara is the first linga, and the second is called Trilochana.
