Who had burned the sprout of Kāma’s life with the fire of Hara’s eye,
The foremost of the daityas, his heart pierced by her sharp arrows, in distress,
O Jambha, great Jambha, Kujambha, with the dreadful face,
Pingākṣa, Mahishagrīva, fierce one of terrible form,
Jitāntaka, mighty-armed, great-mouthed, mountain-like one,
Ugrāsya, long-toothed, Evakesha, wolf-faced one,
Shukatunda, fierce-mouthed, terrible-eyed, ever-hungry one,
Long-necked, great-thighed, Kramelaka, head-bearer,
Dhumrākṣa, smoky-breathed, blazing with fierce rays,
And others among your hosts, attack this dweller of Vindhya!
Let her be brought here swiftly, wounded by the arrows of Kāma.
Hearing these words of Durgā, the lord of the Dānavas—
O great king, consider: what is so difficult in this task?
What great effort is required, O Lord, to bring her here?
With your favor, one who is determined could endure it in all three worlds.
Let us bring her, along with her attendants, and quickly present her at your feet.
The worlds of Mahar, Janas, Tapas, and Satya are under your authority.
The lord of Vaikuṇṭha always obeys your command.
It was by us alone that the lord of Kailāsa was abandoned.
Out of fear of us, he concealed a woman with half his body.
Even the single ageless bull lives by none other than us.
All their wealth is pale, and all have but a single matted lock.
What can we do for those hosts, O Lord, who are destitute?
The serpents among us, O Lord, are wretched, evening after evening.
The wish-fulfilling tree, the cow of plenty, and countless cintāmaṇi gems—
The wind would become a fan, serving you with devotion.
Fire would wash your garments, and the moon himself would hold your parasol.
Who would not seek your favor, among mortals, immortals, and serpents?
Behold our strength, O King; let us bring forth this force.
When the time of dissolution arrives, it will flood this world.
