आगादिह महादेवो वृषेशो वृषभध्वजात्
Here came the great god, Lord of the Bull, from the lineage of Vṛṣabhadhvaja.
इहागतं तु केदारादीशानेश्वर संज्ञितम्
Here arrived from Kedāra the one known as Īśāneśvara.
ईशानेशं समभ्यर्च्य स्नात्वोत्तरवहांभसि
Having worshipped Īśāneśa and bathed in the waters of the northern stream,
भैरवाद्भैरवी मूर्तिरत्रायाता मनोहरा
From Bhairava, the enchanting form of Bhairavī appeared here.
पूजनात्सर्वसिद्ध्यै स प्राच्यां खर्वविनायकात्
By worship, for the attainment of all accomplishments, he came from the eastern Kharvavināyaka.
उग्रः कनखलात्तीर्थादाविरासेह सिद्धिदः
The fierce one, bestower of success, manifested here from the Kanakhala ford.
उग्रं लिंगं सदा सेव्यं प्राच्यामर्कविनायकात्
The fierce liṅga, ever to be served, came from the eastern Amarkavināyaka.
वस्त्रापथान्महाक्षेत्राद्भवो नाम स्वयं विभुः
From the great sacred field of Vastrāpatha, the Lord himself, called Bhava, appeared.
भवेश्वरं समभ्यर्च्य भवेनाविर्भवेन्नरः 4.2.69.
Having worshipped Bhaveśvara, a man becomes manifest through Bhava.
नैपालाच्च महाक्षेत्रादायात्पशुपतिस्त्विह 4.2.69.
From the great sacred field of Nepal, Paśupati has come here.
नकुलीशात्पुरोभागे दृष्टा भीमेश्वरं प्रभुम् 4.2.69.
In front of Nakulīśa, Bhīmeśvara, the lord, was seen.
हेमकूटाद्विरूपाक्षं लिंगमत्राविरास ह 4.2.69.
From Hemakūṭa, the liṅga of Virūpākṣa appeared here.
मत्स्योदर्यां हि ये स्नाता यत्रकुत्रापि मानवाः 4.2.69.
Wherever people have bathed in Matsyodarī, indeed—
शेषवासुकिमुख्यैश्च तत्प्रासादो महानिह 4.2.69.
Here, that great temple is with Śeṣa, Vāsuki, and the foremost serpents.
नैर्कत्यां दिशि तल्लिंगं निर्ऋतेश्वरसंज्ञकम् 4.2.69.
In the direction of Nairṛta, that liṅga is known as Nirṛteśvara.
एतान्यायतनानीश आनिनाय महांति च 4.2.69.
The Lord brought forth these great shrines.
श्रद्धा प्रसाद्य शैलादिमिदं प्रोवाच कुंभज
Having pleased Śraddhā and the mountain, Kumbhaja spoke this.
शिलादतनयोप्यैशीं मूर्द्धन्याज्ञां विधाय च 4.2.69.
The son of Śilāda, too, having received the supreme command, acted accordingly.
श्रुत्वाष्टषष्टिमेतां वै महायतन संश्रयाम्
Hearing of these sixty-eight great shrines, indeed—
अगस्त्य उवाच यथा व्यापारिता देव्यो देवदेवनिदेशतः
Agastya said: As the goddesses were stationed by the command of the Lord of gods—
अविमुक्तस्य रक्षार्थं यत्र या देवताः स्थिताः
For the protection of Avimukta, where those goddesses are established—
इत्यगस्त्युदितं श्रुत्वा महादेवतनूद्भवः
Hearing this, spoken by Agastya, the one born from the body of the Great God—
स्कंद उवाच वाराणस्यां विशालाक्षी क्षेत्रस्य परमेष्टदा
Skanda said: In Vārāṇasī, Viśālākṣī is the bestower of supreme blessings for the sacred field.
स्नात्वा विशालतीर्थे वै विशालाक्षीं प्रणम्य च
Having bathed at the Viśālā ford and bowed to Viśālākṣī—
भाद्रकृष्णतृतीयायामुपोषणपरैर्नृभिः
On the third day of the bright fortnight of Bhādra, by men observing the fast—
प्रातर्भोज्याः प्रयत्नेन चतुर्दशकुमारिकाः
In the morning, with care, fourteen maidens are to be fed.
विधाय पारणं पश्चात्पुत्रभृत्यसमन्वितैः
After performing the breaking of the fast, together with sons and servants—
तस्यां तिथौ महायात्रा कार्या क्षेत्रनिवासिभिः
On that date, a great procession should be held by the residents of the sacred field.
वाराणस्यां विशालाक्षी पूजनीया प्रयत्नतः 4.2.70.
In Varanasi, Vishalakshi must be worshipped with utmost devotion.
मणिमुक्ताद्यलंकारैर्विचित्रोल्लोच चामरैः
She should be adorned with jewels, pearls, and various splendid ornaments, as well as with fans.
